Course Contents
The course delves into the analysis of specific digital systems governed by European legislation.
It covers databases, automated decision-making systems, digital platforms, rankings, system security, and structured digital documents.

Learning Outcomes
The course aims to develop:
- Technical analysis skills for complex digital systems;
- Understanding of database and platform architectures;
- Awareness of the legal implications of automated systems;
- Ability to assess technological and regulatory risks.
Prerequisites
Knowledge acquired during the Computer Science I course
Teaching Methods
- Lectures with case studies;
- Analysis of datasets and database models;
- Hands-on activities with advanced Excel, simple databases, and Python applications;
- Guided study of cases governed by GDPR, AI Act, DSA, NIS2, and CAD.
Additional Information
The course takes place in the same semester as Fundamentals of Algorithms and is coordinated with it, while maintaining teaching and assessment autonomy.

Assessment Methods
The assessment includes:
1. Practical exam, consisting of the technical analysis of a real or simulated digital system.
2. Oral exam, aimed at assessing the student's understanding of the systems studied and their connection to regulatory requirements.

1. Digital Systems Architecture
Client-server; cloud; logs; security and access control (NIS2).
2. Data and Databases
Relational model; query; profiling; accountability (GDPR).
3. Decision-making Systems and AI
Rule-based and statistical systems; explainability; bias; human supervision (AI Act).
4. Digital Platforms and Ranking
Platform architecture; recommendation systems; automated moderation (DSA).
5. Digital Documents and Interoperability
Structured documents; metadata; integrity; interoperability (CAD, eIDAS).
Expected Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
- Analyze the technical structure of a complex digital system;
- Understand the functioning of databases and automated systems;
- Identify applicable European regulations;
- Critically assess risks and responsibilities associated with digital systems.
