The lectures will cover the main dermatological diseases of infectious etiology with possible sexual transmission.
In detail, the topics covered will be the following:
infectious dermatitis from parasites, bacterial, virus and fungal with possible sexual trasmission.
The lectures will be integrated with practical demonstrations addressed to diagnostics (dermoscopy, direct microscopic examination, cultural examinations, skin biopsy), differential diagnostics and treatment of the main sexually transmitted diseases.

The course aims to provide students with the theoretical and clinical knowledge required for the recognition, diagnostic evaluation, and management of the major sexually transmitted infections (STIs), with particular emphasis on their epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:describe the epidemiology, routes of transmission, and major risk factors of sexually transmitted infections;recognize the clinical manifestations of the most common bacterial, viral, fungal, and parasitic STIs;develop an appropriate diagnostic approach and interpret the main microbiological and serological investigations used in the diagnosis of STIs;understand the principles of treatment for the most common STIs, including patient management and partner management strategies;understand the principles of primary and secondary prevention, counselling, screening, and vaccination in the prevention and control of sexually transmitted infections;recognize the complications of STIs and their impact on reproductive health and public health;integrate the acquired knowledge into a multidisciplinary approach to patient care, taking into account the ethical, communication, and confidentiality issues involved in the management of sexually transmitted infections.

Basic knowledge of anatomy and histology of normal human skin.
Basic knowledge on the morphological characteristics of bacteria, fungi and virus and on the possible modlaitties of transmission.

The course consists of face-to-face lectures supported by multimedia presentations. Teaching activities include the extensive use of clinical images and representative clinical cases to facilitate the learning of dermatological and venereological semiology, the recognition of the main clinical manifestations of sexually transmitted infections, and the development of an appropriate differential diagnostic approach. The theoretical knowledge acquired during the lectures will be reinforced through practical sessions and supervised clinical training, enabling students to apply diagnostic and management principles in real clinical settings.

Students can take optional periods of attendance at the SCDU of Dermatology with the assignment of credits.

Student learning will be assessed through an oral examination designed to evaluate the acquisition of theoretical and clinical knowledge of the major sexually transmitted infections (STIs). During the examination, students will be expected to recognize the clinical manifestations of the most common STIs, develop an appropriate diagnostic approach, discuss therapeutic and preventive strategies, and apply clinical reasoning to the management of patients with sexually transmitted infections.The final grade will be expressed on a 30-point scale and will reflect the completeness and accuracy of the knowledge demonstrated, the ability to integrate epidemiological, clinical, diagnostic, and therapeutic aspects, the appropriate use of medical terminology, and the clarity of presentation. Assessment will also consider the ability to formulate an appropriate differential diagnosis, discuss evidence-based prevention strategies, and outline the clinical management of patients and their sexual partners in accordance with current international guidelines. The highest grades will be awarded to students who demonstrate comprehensive and in-depth knowledge of the subject, independent clinical reasoning, critical thinking, and a clear, accurate, and well-structured presentation.

Epidemiology of sexually transmitted infections (STIs): global and national epidemiology, major risk factors, routes of transmission, principles of primary and secondary prevention, screening strategies, and vaccination.Major sexually transmitted skin and mucocutaneous infections:parasitic infestations (scabies and pubic lice);bacterial infections (syphilis, chancroid, lymphogranuloma venereum, and granuloma inguinale);viral infections (herpes simplex virus infection, human papillomavirus infection, and molluscum contagiosum);fungal infections (anogenital candidiasis).For each condition, the course will cover pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, diagnostic work-up, principles of treatment, potential complications, and preventive measures.Diagnostic approach to sexually transmitted infections: medical history, dermatological and venereological physical examination, differential diagnosis, and the main microbiological and serological diagnostic tests.Clinical management of patients with sexually transmitted infections: patient counselling, partner management, follow-up, mandatory notification of infections when applicable, and key principles of public health.

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:describe the epidemiology, routes of transmission, and major risk factors of sexually transmitted infections (STIs);recognize the clinical manifestations of the major sexually transmitted infections of dermatological and venereological relevance and distinguish their characteristic clinical features and differential diagnoses;develop an appropriate diagnostic approach by selecting and interpreting the principal microbiological and serological investigations required for the diagnosis of STIs;understand the principles of treatment and clinical management of the most common sexually transmitted infections, including follow-up and partner management;explain the role of prevention, screening, counselling, and vaccination in reducing the transmission and burden of sexually transmitted infections;integrate epidemiological, clinical, diagnostic, and therapeutic knowledge into the assessment and management of patients with sexually transmitted infections, applying an evidence-based and multidisciplinary approach.
