Identification of health needs of patient with renal disease, with a focus on outpatient support.
The course aims at providing general elements concerning main problems of nurse assistance for patient with acute and chronic renal disease, end-stage renal disease, on dialysis and with a renal transplant, in addition to modern diagnostic and therapeutic tools also in the post-transpant setting.

Knowledge of main mechanisms of renal disease and their manifestations, of indications to main laboratory and instrumental exams, of principles of therapy or renal disease with a focus on artificial and natural renal replacement therapy; knowledge of peculiar aspects of nurse assistance for nephropathic patients, for patients with advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD), on dialysis and with a renal transplant, with a focus on outpatient support in this setting.

The student must know general elements of anatomy and renal physiology and general pathology.

Frontal lessons with possible support of specialists. Power-points, videos, clinical cases.

Basic concepts of renal semeiotic. Urinalysis and urinary sediment examination, assessment of renal function. Renal ultrasound and other instrumental exams. Renal biopsy. Nephrological syndromes. Primary and secondary glomerulonephritis. Acute and chronic interstitial nephritis. Acute pyelonephritis. Vascular renal disorders. Acute kidney injury (AKI).
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) and uremic syndrome.
Hemodialysis: general principles and indications. Nurse support for hemodialysis patient with a focus on outpatient assistance.
Peritoneal dialysis: general principles and indications. Nurse support for peritoneal dialysis patient with a focus on outpatient assistance.
Renal transplant. Nurse support for hemodialysis patient with a focus on outpatient assistance.

The student after completing the course shoud be able to identify and correlate signs and symptoms of renal disorders and to manage nurse assistence including peculiar aspects of nephropathic patient and a focus on outpatient support.
