Course Contents
The course will cover the main infectious diseases affecting adults and their routes of transmission and prevention. An approach to the epidemiology, diagnosis, and clinical presentation of the main diseases caused by microorganisms will be discussed. We will also address antibiotic resistance and healthcare-associated infections.

Learning Outcomes
- Analyze interactions between microorganisms and hosts and between microorganism populations
- Understand antibiotic resistance, risk factors for MDR infections, and methods for preventing healthcare-associated infections
- Identify the routes of human-to-human transmission of major infectious diseases and methods for preventing them
- Recognize the main clinical pictures associated with infectious diseases
Prerequisites
Students must have acquired basic knowledge of Microbiology, Anatomy, and Pathology.

• Introduction to infectious diseases: colonization and infection, transmission routes, one health and environmental/geographical/behavioral conditions and infections
• Antibiotic resistance, healthcare-associated infections and their prevention
• Tuberculosis (and NTM)
• Sexually transmitted infections, HIV and AIDS
• Infectious mononucleosis and mononucleosis-like syndromes
• Tropical diseases and arboviruses
• Central nervous system infections
Expected Learning Outcomes
Acquisition of in-depth knowledge of the main infectious diseases, their transmission routes, and their prevention. Expression of knowledge in appropriate scientific language. Application of skills to real-world clinical cases.
