Knowledge and ability to apply the fundamentals of palliation in practice.

The students must have essential notions of biology and pathology that allow the development of a clinical approach of the subject.

The exam consists of a written and an oral test. The evaluation carried out with a written test aims to verify the level of knowledge and understanding of the contents of disciplines and consists of multiple choice questions regarding the medical disciplines. Passing this test (60% for each discipline) gives access to the oral examination. The oral exam, which takes place about 5/15 days after passing written test, aims to evaluate autonomy of judgment, learning ability, communicative ability in explaining arguments and in making the connections between subjects. The student must be able to use diagnostic reasoning autonomously, using the knowledge learned and demonstrating that he has understood them by discussing on care peculiar aspects of cancer patient.

Principles of Palliative Care: history, setting, multidisciplinarity and regulatory aspects.The evaluation and evolution of palliative patient and family member/care-giver needs.Performance status and quality of life.Early and simultaneous care.Symptoms in Palliative Care and in terminal phase of illness: diagnostic and therapeutic framework.The management of emergencies in Palliative Care (hemorrhages, spinal cord compression, mediastinal syndrome, delirium...).Approach to palliation and terminal illness according to the places of care and social needs.Communication and relationship with palliative/terminal patient and with family/care-giver.Spiritual aspects.Ethical aspects: treatment planning according ti patient wishes, DAT.Mourning.
