Basic knowledge of anatomy. Locomotory apparatus. Cardiovascular system. Immune system. Respiratory system. Digestive system. Urinary tract. Genital apparatus. Endocrine system. Nervous system. Eye and Hear.
Lining epithelia: classification, structure, function and physiology. Protective epithelia and absorbent epithelia. Secretory epithelia: the glands - Blood: structure, function of plasma and cells. The hematopoiesis. - Connective tissues in general: cells and extracellular matrix. - Supportive (bone, cartilage) and specialized (t.adipose) connective tissues: structure and function. - Muscle tissues: structure and function. - Nervous tissue: the shape of neurons and glia. - Embryology: Notes on the development of the bilaminar and trilaminar embryo and the fate of the three germ layers.

Learning Outcomes
The course provides the students with a theoretical knowledge of the microscopic and macroscopic human anatomy with a special focus on the anatomical regions of greatest relevance to clinical practice and human pathology. Moreover at the end of the course the student will acquire knowledge on the characteristics of the main non pathological tissues (components, main location, function, embryological derivation). The student will acquire judgemnt indipendence, knowledge on histology and comunications skills
Prerequisites
Notions of Cell Biology, acquired during secondary studies and the course of biological sciences of the degree course.

Assessment Methods
Written test with multiple choice questions. Up to 25% of the questions may contain pictures of tissue that the students should recognize among the options given in the answer sheet

Histology: Lining epithelia: classification, structure, function and physiology. Protective epithelia and absorbent epithelia. Secretory epithelia: the glands - Blood: structure, function of plasma and cells. The hematopoiesis. - Dense and loose connective tissue: cells and extracellular matrix. - Supportive (bone, cartilage) and specialized (t.adipose) connective tissues: structure and function. - Muscle tissues: structure and function. - Nervous tissue: form of neurons and glia. - Embryology: Notes on the development of the bilaminar and trilaminar embryo and the fate of the three germ layers.
Anatomy: Basic knowledge: Anatomical terminology, anatomical position, position and movement definition, organs, apparatus and systems. Muscolo-skeletal system: Generality, structure of bone elements; Type, structure and functional meanings of joints; Structure of striated muscle and smooth muscle, descriptive and functional anatomy of muscle complexes. Cardiovascular system: The heart: position and relationships. Veins and arteries, topographical anatomy of the arterial and venous network and vascularization areas. Immune system: Organization of the immune system, lymphoid tissue and lymphoid organs. Respiratory system: Descriptive and functional anatomy of the upper and lower airways (nasal cavities, pharynx, larynx, trachea and bronchi, pulmonary parenchyma, pleura). Digestive system: Descriptive and functional anatomy of: oral cavity, pharynx, esophagus, stomach, intestine and glands related to the digestive system (Liver, Pancreas). Urinary system: Descriptive and functional anatomy of: kidneys, renal pelvis, urether, bladder, male and female urethra. Genital apparatus: MALE - Descriptive and functional anatomy of gonads, genital tract and related structures. FEMALE - Descriptive and functional anatomy of gonads, genital tract and related structures. Endocrine system: Descriptive and functional anatomy of: hypophysis, thyroid, parathyroid, endocrine pancreas, surrenal glands and gonads. Nervous system: CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM - Descriptive and functional anatomy of spinal cord, encephalic trunk, cerebellum, diencephalon, telencephalon, and basal ganglia. PERIPHERAL NERVOUS SYSTEM - Functional correlations of the sympathetic and parasympathetic system, nomenclature and meaning of the cranial nerves and spinal plexus. Eye and Ear functional anatomy.
Expected Learning Outcomes
knowledge on the morphology and function of tissues that are explained in class. recognition of the basic techniques of histology for tissue recognition. Moreover, upon completion of the module, students will be expected to know the microscopic and macroscopic organization of human organs, apparatuses, and systems, and to understand the relationship between their structure and function. They should also possess a good knowledge of the clinical issues these structures may present and be able to communicate their knowledge using accurate scientific and anatomical terminology.
