Basic concepts of bioethics

Examination materials will be made available at the beginning of the course in the form of handouts.

- objectives - knowledge and understanding: To provide the methodological tools to understand and assimilate the fundamental concepts of moral philosophy
- objectives - ability to apply knowledge and understanding: To acquire the ability to resolve ethical controversies
- objectives - expression of judgments: Acquisition of the ability to reframe and provide independent judgments regarding ethical problems
- objectives - communication skills: Acquisition of the ability to discuss different ethical positions critically.

Students with disabilities, learning disabilities or special education needs, once they have contacted

modalities, concerning academic aspects.

The examination will be held in written form

The examination will aim to assess the student's ability to understand, study and personally rework the issues addressed in the course. The test will also aim to ascertain the acquisition of theoretical knowledge and the ability to analyze and evaluate data in the different domains of bioethics.
Honors will be awarded on the basis of the following criteria: (i) accuracy, thoroughness and ability to elaborate the answer; (ii) accuracy in the use of specific philosophical terminology

- Basic concepts: morality, ethics, law
- The methods of ethics: deontology and consequentialism
- The methods of ethics: utilitarianism and principilism
- Application of the concepts discussed above to bioethical case-studies

Subject matter learning, exposition and argumentation skills, ability to decline knowledge in critical perspective.
