Upon completion of the course, students should understand the classification of periodontal disease, the basics of diagnostic imaging in periodontology, treatment planning and prognosis of periodontal disease, motivation in periodontology, non-surgical treatment, patient-assisted plaque removal methods, manual and electric toothbrushing techniques, interproximal plaque removal techniques, supportive periodontal therapy, maintenance therapy, complications and treatment errors in non-surgical periodontal therapy, and the basics of periodontal surgery.

The student must be able to collect an anamnesis and compile a medical record, perform an objective examination, recognize the main and most frequent diseases of the periodontal tissues.
Know the classification of periodontal diseases and gingivitis.

The student must demonstrate knowledge of the anatomy of periodontal tissues, as well as all the topics covered in the course, integrated with notions of histology and anatomy that are essential to understand the development of the various diseases.
Any papers will be evaluated for the determination of the final grade.
