Course Contents
The course aims to give students useful elements to understand the use of omics in forensic sciences and know the most suitable techniques for responding to medico-legal questions such as personal identification, the time of death, the causes of death.

Learning Outcomes
The course aims to provide students with useful elements for understanding the applications of genomics, metabolomics, lipidomics, proteomics and transcriptomics in the forensic field. The course also aims to provide elements on the identification of unknown and forensic corpses, as well as providing notions of thanatology and clinical forensic pathology.

Forensic genomics: Crime Scene Investigation, characterization of evidence, forensic genetics (human identification, ancestry, phenotyping, DNA methylation) Microbiome and forensic sciences: human identification, estimation of PMI, causes of death, prediction of chronological age Forensic metabolomics and lipidomics: instruments and estimation of PMI Forensic proteomics: instruments and estimation of PMI, prediction of chronological age, human identification Forensic transcriptomics: RNA and body fluids identification, RNA and estimation of PMI. Thanatology: definition of death, algor, livor, rigor, post-mortal transformative phenomena, estimation of post-mortem interval. Anthropological identification of unknown corpses and living people: biological profile, age estimation, facial approximation, identification methods. Migrants and humanitarian forensic medicine. Gender-based violence: further exploration of this issue falls within the scope of ‘Gender mainstreaming’.
Expected Learning Outcomes
In order to achieve the knowledge and skills corresponding to the minimum level of sufficiency, the student is asked to demonstrate: (KNOWLEDGE) - know the general principles of omics applied to forensic sciences; (SKILLS) - know how to identify the best techniques to obtain the greatest possible amount of information for identification purposes, to define the post-mortem interval, the causes of death (TRANSVERSAL SKILLS) - be able to present and comment on technical material from scientific articles published in sector scientific journals;
