French Language for Tourism. In line with the educational objectives of the Master's Degree Course in Languages, Cultures, Tourism (LM-49), the course aims to support students in acquiring linguistic, communicative, and intercultural knowledge and skills useful for working in the tourism sector (oral interaction; written comprehension and production; translation).

The course aims to develop students' oral interaction and written comprehension and production skills in the French language within the tourism context. Particular attention will be paid to the study of specific vocabulary, communication strategies, and the most appropriate linguistic registers for addressing different contexts and audiences.

B1/B2 language proficiency level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Lectures (delivery-based teaching: approximately 50%); group work (text analysis, text production, translations) and interaction between participants and the lecturer (interactive teaching: approximately 50%).

The DIR platform will provide texts presented in class and supplementary documentation. Non-attending students (i.e. those who have not attended at least 70% of the lectures) will have to agree with the lecturer on complementary teaching materials. The assessment of the acquired knowledge and skills will consist of two tests: a written test (written comprehension/production and translation: graded out of 30, with a passing mark of 18) and an oral exam (presentation of the group translation projects and answers to 3 theoretical and methodological questions asked by the professor regarding the course syllabus: graded out of 30, with a passing mark of 18). The two tests can be taken in different exam sessions, but no more than 12 months apart from each other. A passing mark must be achieved in both tests in order to pass the exam. Grading is divided into 5 bands: (1) Excellent (30 with honors/30): Excellent knowledge of all course content and full mastery of all expected skills; accuracy, correctness, and effectiveness in written and oral expression and in translation. (2) Very Good (30-28/30): Very good knowledge of all course content and achievement of all expected skills; absence of significant errors in written and oral expression and in translation. (3) Good (27-24/30): Good knowledge of the course content and satisfactory achievement of all expected skills; written and oral expression and translations are overall correct. (4) Pass (23-18/30): Acceptable knowledge of the course content and sufficient achievement of the expected skills; presence of some errors in expression and translation. (5) Fail (less than 18): Partial and superficial knowledge of the course content and failure to achieve the expected skills; written and oral expression and translations are marred by numerous errors.

The course aims to guide and support students in acquiring linguistic, metalinguistic, and cultural knowledge and skills essential for working in the tourism sector, while fostering and encouraging both theoretical reflection and its practical application. Approximately half of the lecture hours will be dedicated to hands-on activities (written and oral production; translation) using authentic tourism and promotional materials. Specifically, students will translate from French into Italian different texts of the territorial promotion agency of the Drôme Department (Drôme Attractivité), as well as texts from Italian into French for various public organizations in the Vercelli area. Considerable focus will be placed on specific vocabulary and relevant communication strategies for engaging with diverse audiences in various contexts. Materials such as written documents, audio, and video files will be provided on the DIR platform to support self-study and independent work.

Ability to communicate orally and effectively in French within standard scenarios for tourism industry operators.Ability to produce correct and relevant translations and texts, using appropriate vocabulary, idioms, and language register for the specific context and target audience.
