Course Contents
The course will present the main theories and method of social research and it will be divided in four parts. The first part is dedicated to the main paradigm of social research and to the ontological, epistemological and methodological issues. The second part is dedicated to qualitative research and methods. The third part to quantitative research and methods. The last part is dedicated to research design group activity

The course aim to provide knowledge and capability on the design research and on the main instruments of data detection and data organization

The course is organized in frontal lesson and group activity. Frequency in not compulsory but it is strongly recommended

Assessment Methods
The final text is a written exam to verify the student’s ability in theoretical and practical aspects of the discipline. It’s duration is 60 minutes and it consists of 5 closed-ended questions and 3 open-ended questions

First part – The scientific method and the methodology of social sciences – Ontological, epistemological and methodological issues – The paradigm of social research – Two different ways to know social reality: qualitative and quantitative research. Second part – The path of qualitative research – the participant observation – the interview and the in-depth interview – The focus group – The documents analysis The analysis of qualitative data Third part: The path of quantitative research – The survey – The questionaries’ construction – The data detection – The data organization: CXV matrix The univariate analysis – The bivariate analysis. Fourth part: research design group activity
