Overweight and obesity. Pubertal disorders. Thyroid and Adrenal diseases. Main gastroenterological diseases in childhood. Newborn classification. Adaptation to intrauterine life. Main neonatal diseases. Nutrition in different pediatric ages. Main cardiologic and neprologic diseases.

Learning Outcomes
Aim of this course is to deepen diseases in gastrointestinal and endocrinological fields in pediatric age, in order to set up prevention, diagnosis and therapy and acquire the professional skills useful for knowing how to manage the complexity of the pathology and the peculiarities of the child.
Other pediatric diseases will be treated in the other pediatric courses. The teaching method provides for the horizontal and vertical integration of knowledge and is oriented towards the ability to solve problems and make decisions. Furthermore, attention is paid to interventions for the prevention of diseases and the promotion of children's health, taking into consideration the globality of soma and psyche, the peculiarities of the developmental age, gender differences and the social context.
Prerequisites
Student have to Know main physiology and pathology knowledges of growth processes in pediatric age, taking into consideration the new care and health needs centered not only on the disease but on the sick child and his family.
Teaching Methods
Lectures and plenary discussions of clinical cases to develop the interpretation of diagnostic tests and clinical reasoning, starting from the knowledge acquired in the basic courses, declined in the pediatric age.
Assessment Methods
Oral examination.
Student have to demonstrate knowledge of treated diseases and ability in clinical reasoning.
Detailed Syllabus
The emerging problem of pediatric obesity. Prevention and therapeutic appoach. Pubertal disorders. Thyroid disorders. Adrenal hyperplasia and insufficiency. Diagnosis and treatment of celiac disease, gastroesophageal reflux disease, eosinophilic esophagitis.
Newborn classification. Extrauterine life adaptation. Main newborn diseases. Nutrition in different pediatric ages. Congenital hearth diseases, cardiomyopathy, arrythmic diseases. Nephrotic diseases. Urinary tract infection. Hemolythic uremic syndrome.
Expected Learning Outcomes
Knowledge of growth charts and appropriate biometric parameters in pediatric age. Approach to main diseases treated during the course. Recognition of the peculiarities of the pediatric age. Awareness of the role of breastfeeding as a health goal for the individual and society.
