Introduction to the fundamental concepts of ethics. Ethics and the end of life

Examination materials will be made available to the student at the beginning of the course in the form of handouts

- objectives - knowledge and understanding: To provide the methodological tools to understand and assimilate the fundamental concepts of moral philosophy
- objectives - ability to apply knowledge and understanding: To acquire the ability to resolve ethical controversies
- objectives - expression of judgments: Acquisition of the ability to reframe and provide independent judgments regarding ethical problems
- objectives - communication skills: Acquisition of the ability to discuss different ethical positions critically.

Interactive face-to-face lectures. Discussion of particular clinical and nursing cases.

The final proof of learning will cover the following coursework: 1) Ethics and Philosophy of Science 2) Disciplinary Insights in Nursing 3) Theory and Philosophy of Nursing 4) Theory and Philosophy of Midwifery.

The examination will consist of an oral test in which the student's ability to apply the knowledge acquired in the course will be assessed, through:
- the explication of philosophical and ethical content of the nursing and midwifery professions
- the examination of an emblematic nursing and midwifery case and the application of clinical reasoning
- the explication of content related to advanced nursing skills
The oral examination will be considered passed if the candidate has demonstrated sufficient knowledge of the theoretical concepts contained in the course and sufficient clinical reasoning skills with respect to the proposed cases.
To achieve a score of 30/30 cum laude, the student must demonstrate excellent knowledge of all topics covered in the course

- Basic concepts: morality, ethics, law
- The methods of ethics: deontology and consequentialism
- The methods of ethics: utilitarianism and principilism
- Application of the concepts discussed above to practical medical and nursing cases
