The student at the end of the course should understand the importance of the relational nature of the nursing profession and specifically:
- Of professional identity as an essential condition for respect for the "other."
- Of the importance of the self in the nursing relationship
The student will also be expected to apply the ethical and deontological principles of the profession in placing the person and family at the center of the plan of care.

Frontal lectures will be used to impart basic theoretical knowledge, discussions of clinical cases and care situations in order to plan interventions in the relational domain as well as role-plays and film screenings to apply the relational communication skills learned.

The teaching activity is linked to the complementary activity "1-2-3rd year relational workshop"

The verification of learning will be characterized by an oral test, which will include questions aimed at verifying theoretical and content knowledge and reasoning and planning questions based on clinical care situations. It will have a maximum duration of 15 minutes.

Knowledge and understanding:
Upon completion of the module, the student will be able to:
-know and describe the process, stages and technical aspects of verbal and nonverbal communication;
-describe the rationale of the helping and therapeutic relationship;
-describe the role of tenderness in the helping relationship and the intrinsic professional value;
-distinguish the different levels and types of relational and therapeutic contact;
-understand and discuss strategies for initiating and maintaining the interpersonal and helping relationship, as well as strategies in special cases (relationship with aggressive or angry patients, patients with a depressive profile, patients with anxiety and fear, or patients who are hearing or visually impaired)
- describe ways of overcoming conflicts in the team;
- know the relevance of cultural variables in the relationship and their impact in the professional relationship.
Ability to apply knowledge and understanding:
Upon completion of the module, the student will be able to:
-apply theoretical knowledge on communication and relationship to verisimilar and complex clinical cases:
-apply the knowledge and skills acquired to conduct nursing assessment;
-take responsibility for the helping relationship as a tool of nursing action;
-assume decision-making through a professional approach aimed at solving the patient's relational problems;
-decide the areas, limits, method and tools of professional action because of the progression of curricular learning during the internship.
Communication Skills:
Upon completion of the module, the student will be able to:
-use appropriate terminology to describe the logic of the helping relationship as a professional skill.
Learning skills:
At the end of the module the student will be able to:
-develop skills in critical analysis of videos or simulations of complex relational situations.
-take an oral interview on topics of relational interest to the nursing profession.
