Course Contents
Identification of the nursing and health care needs of the person affect by pathologies of general or specialist surgical relevance: urological, nephrological, otolaryngological, vascular and pulmonary nature.

Learning Outcomes
Developing cognitive competences, clinical judgement competences, communicative and gesture competences, necessary for managing a patient with health problems, which demand surgical treatment, in elective and urgent surgery, selected on the base of their epidemiological significance and exemplariness.
Topics: gastro-intestinal problems, bile and hepatic problems, vascular, metabolic, thoracic and senological problems, problems concerning musculoskeletal system (traumatic and degenatives), breast cancer, lung cancer, larynx cancer, prostate and bladder cancer.
With reference to the selected clinical situations of surgical interest the student is expected to:
Acquire the notions of surgical pathology regarding: esophagus, stomach, pancreas, liver, colon, lung, breast, thyroid gland, ear, nose, pharynx, larynx, bladder, prostate and vascular pathologies.
Acquire the notions of orthopedics deseases regarding: trauma, arthritis, juvenile orthopaedic problems, foot and ankle, spine and hand surgery.
Identify the main problems of a person undergoing a surgury in the preoperative phase, functional recovery and rehabilitation phase and the related nursing care, based on scientific evidence.
Describe the main evaluation scales used during the preoperative phase.
Identify clinical manifestations of the main complications in the intraoperative and postoperative phase and the prevention criteria.
Describe the main problems the sick person faces in a surgical procedure, which require intervention of an educational/social type as well as the related procedures of patient management.
Identify educational interventions aimed at people who have to continue the treatment at home or continue self management of the disease.
Describe the safety elements related to a surgical operation.
Prerequisites
To access the exam: Sufficiency in morphological sciences and physiological sciences, minimum number of hours required by current regulations
Teaching Methods
Frontal lesson, power point, videos, clinical case.
Assessment Methods
Written test with 60 multiple choice questions with only one correct answer, 24 of a general surgical nature and the remaining relating to the specialty. Structuring according to the model of clinical cases with questions responding to all the disciplines that make up the teaching
- Time available: 90 minutes
- Certification evaluation: judgment out of 30
-Sufficiency: 18/30 (60% of the total)

Expected Learning Outcomes
At the end of the integrated course, the student will be able to know, identify and correlate signs and symptoms of a pathology or problem susceptible to surgical evaluation.
