At the end of the course the student must know the characteristics of the main normal tissues (components, main localization, function and embryological derivation) and the morphology of the relative cells

The student must have the essential basic notions of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Biology

Classroom lessons and Power Point presentations (uploaded to the DIR platform)

At the end of the course, students will be shown sample questions of the exam assignment to understand the structure of the exam assignment (multiple choice quiz)

Quiz with multiple choice questions (15 - 20 questions) to be taken online in the Esami DIR section.

- Classification of tissues and their embryonic origin (gastrulation and description of the 3 embryonic sheets)
- Connective tissues: cells and extracellular matrix (properly called, liquid and specialized)
- Supportive connective tissues (cartilage): hyaline, elastic cartilage and fibrocartilage; chondrogenesis
- Supportive connective tissues (bone): compact and spongy; osteogenesis
- Blood: structure, function of plasma and cells. Hemopoiesis
- The epithelial tissue: lining epithelia: classification, structure and function; secreting epithelia: the glands
- The nervous tissue: neurons and the glia. Structure and organization
