Course Contents
The course includes three parts:
Cultural anthropology;
General and social pedagogy;
Bioetics.

Reference Texts
For the Bioethics module the examination materials will be made available to the student at the beginning of the course in the form of handouts.

Learning Outcomes
The course will provide basic information on the three disciplines: Cultural anthropology; General and social pedagogy; Bioetics.
Specific subjects will be covered more in depth for each discipline.
Prerequisites
Background knowledge are not required. The course provides basic and advanced knowledge. However, critical and judgmental skills are necessary.
Teaching Methods
Interactive face-to-face lectures. Discussion of bioethical, pedagogical and anthropological case studies.
Lectures with the help of slides and videos.
For the Anthropology module, the organization, in agreement with the attending students, of a seminar with the students will be organized.

The slides used during the course, and other teaching materials will be provided on the DIR website.
Students are required to register on the DIR website (www.dir.uniupo.it).
Any variation will be reported.
Assessment Methods
The exam is aimed at verifying the achievement of the learning objectives. It consists of a partly oral and partly written test (for details see the sheets of the individual modules of the integrated course).
The final grade is the result of a collegial evaluation by the teachers of the integrated course.
Detailed Syllabus
BIOETICS. Basic concepts: morality, ethics, law. The methods of ethics: deontology and consequentialism. The methods of ethics: utilitarianism and principilism. Application of the concepts discussed above to bioethical case-studies.
GENERAL AND SOCIAL PEDAGOGY. The educational method developed by Maria Montessori; adult education, the school in the social perspective, the identity of pedagogy, the educational relationship.
CULTURAL ANTHROPOLOGY. Basic concepts of cultural anthropology. Family and kinship. Rites of passage and the cycle of life in the contemporary world. Disability: an anthropological approach. Race and racism.
Expected Learning Outcomes
Knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of general and social pedagogy, cultural anthropology and bioethics. Applying knowledge and understanding to the general concepts of pedagogy, cultural anthropology and bioethics.
