Fundamentals of dermatology with a special focus on the pathogenesis and treatment of cutaneous diseases. Introduction to cosmetic and regenerative dermatology.

The course aims to allow students to understand the general principles of the main skin diseases, thus including either infectious, immune-inflammatory, or neoplastic disorders (as listed in the program). A special attention is paid to the current dermatological treatments of the mentioned diseases. The role of cutaneous microbiome in different dermatosis (i.e. atopy, psoriasis, cutaneous infections) is also discussed.
Moreover, the basis of UV-light, cutaneous actinic damage and photoprotection are presented.
A brief introduction to both cosmetic dermatology and regenerative medicine in dermatology will be presented.

The exam mark will be a multiple-choice exam with 33 questions. There will be no negative marking.

At the end of the course, the student is expected to thoroughly know the general principles of the main skin disorders, with special regard to their pathogenesis and current treatments. It is also expected the student to be able to understand and criticize articles from the dermatology literature.
On these bases, we aim to provide the student the suitable scientific background in order to propose other possible pathway/drugs able to treat some skin diseases.
