Clinical methodology in pediatric neuropsychiatry: the peculiarities in defining the concept of physiology and pathology in developmental diseases are discussed. Basic notions regarding the interpretation of the diagnostic tools more commonly used in childhood neurology and psychiatry are given.
Global assessment of child psychomotor development: methodological and clinical tools useful in the dynamic and integrated assessment of child psychomotor development are discussed and illustrated.
Main pathologies in pediatric neuropsychiatry: the clinical entities more frequently seen in pediatric neuropsychiatry are illustrated, with specific reference to the methodological approach previously discussed in relation to both diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.

The unit’s objective is to discuss and analyze the main clinical topics encountered in pediatric neuropsychiatry with a global approach including both organic and psychiatric aspects of pathology. Aim of this unit is also to illustrate commonly used neurological and psychodynamic diagnostic tools in pediatric neuropsychiatry.
By the end of the study course, students are expected to be able to:
- Recognize the main clinical elements of the discussed pathologies
- Autonomously spot discussed clinical warning signs warranting further diagnostic evaluations
- Modulate the rehabilitation approach in light of the peculiarities of the discussed clinical cases.

Basic knowledge of central and peripheral nervous system anatomy is required.

Lectures on the discussed topics, with the support of both digital and traditional didactic material
- Interactive testing on the discussed topics with time periods specifically dedicated to Q&A
- Interactive analysis of clinical cases during which students will be called to:
o Elaborate a diagnostic hypothesis
o Simulate rehabilitative intervention programming
o Determine clinical warning signs
o Correctly convey the main clinical elements of the emerging clinical picture.
