Course Contents
The aims of the course are as follows:
1. To know the biology of hematopoietic stem cell and of hemopoiesis
2. To know the sources of hematopoietic stem cells, the biology of stem cell mobilization, and the procedures of processing hematopoietic stem cells
3. To know the physiology of autologous, allogeneic and cord blood stem cell transplantation
4. To know the pathogenesis of graft versus host disease
5. To know the biotechnological procedures applied to hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HLA typing, monitoring of engraftment and hematopoietic reconstitution, terapeutic manipulation and engineering of the graft)

Prerequisites
The student is expected to have a good knowledge of basic biology principles of cellular cross-talking between cells and basic notions of histology.

Lectures and interaction in class. A periodic self assessment of the knowledge will be planned during the classes.

Assessment Methods
The exams is part of an integrated course. The final test will be written and it consists of 3 different statement which must be addressed as true or false by the applicant. A brief comment explaining the choice is needed. Examples of the written exam will be presented at the end of every class.
