The course aims to provide the main morphological and metabolic pathways of mushrooms and to highlight the wide range of activities of these organisms and their role in the environment. Develop systematic recognition skills.

Knowledge of biology, particularly cellular and molecular biology.

Lectures where exposure argument is accompanied by artwork and diagrams drawn by the teacher and partly derived from scientiphic articles. Laboratory experiences: identification of fungal taxa.

Discussion of topics during lectures, practice in the laboratory.

Pre-selective written test to evaluate the knowledge and understanding level of the basic course topics. Students who pass the pre-selective written test enter the oral examination in which content, learning ability and communication skills are assessed. Questions cover all topics covered and identification of fungal taxa. Evaluation is on the ORAL TEST only and takes into account the scores achieved in the individual questions and, at student's discretion, the exposition of a mycological topic or scientific article chosen by the student agreed upon and corrected during the course before the exposition. If the student has acquired and knows how to use formal terminology correctly he/she is rated sufficient, if he/she answers all questions thoroughly and demonstrates linking skills he/she achieves excellence.

An overview of systematics, biology and ecology of fungi. Interactions between fungi and other organisms including humans. The fungal poisonings. Preparation of microscopic slides obtained from fungal culture. Use of analytical keys to identify the main fungal taxa.  

Acquisition of Mycology knowledge to understand the development of fungal biology. Ability to apply the knowledge in the laboratory to isolate and identify the most common fungi. Ability to discuss critically main phenomena of life of fungi and organize the knowledge acquired in order to discuss critically the main topics of Mycology. The student should also have knowledge and competence of correct terminology, and ability to develop critical thinking. Ability to use the tools to recognize the main fungal taxa. Ability to use the teaching material provided for a critical and functional study of mycological topics.
