The Ancient Roman History

Objectives of the module: to know the main events of the history of ancient Rome, to understand its political, social and economic weight and to be able to explain them.
The measurement of the indicated obiectives will be carried out during the examination.

Are required the knowledge and culture provided on average by upper secondary schools.

Lectures, seminars, online tutorials.

Attendance in class is recommended.

Oral examination. Attending students : will be proposed , in principle , three questions : the first age monarchical and republican until the Punic Wars including , depending on the period from the end of the Punic Wars until the third century crisis , the third on ' Late Antiquity , from Diocletian to Justinian . It will be given particular relevance to topics in-depth lessons , whose documentation ( in particular those related to sources commented ) will be made ​​available on the DIR . Non-attending students : one of three questions will focus on the contents of the book by G. Alfoeldy ; the temporal distribution of the three questions will be similar to that of the students .

The main events of history of ancient Rome will be examined from the beginnings to the VI century a.d., in particular: the foundation myths, the transition from monarchy to republic, the expansion of Rome in the Mediterranean area, the civil wars, the beginning of principate, the imperial dinasties and the reforms by Diocletianus, Constantinus and Justinian.
