• Objective - knowledge and comprehension: acquiring the knowledge of the basics of the discipline: theoretical concepts of the discipline and of the fields of ethnographic research. Acquiring the critical thinking skills necessary to deconstruct the most common stereotypes. Understanding the multiplicity, the plurality of worldviews. Contextualizing the anthropological change which took place in Italy from the middle of the 20th century through some notions, such as: tradition, modernity, globalization, migration.
• Objectives - ability to apply knowledge and comprehension: to be able to identify, to interpret and to place critically some aspects of ethno-anthropological culture; to acquire the ability to read texts and documents critically.
• Objectives - expression of opinions and judgments: to acquire the ability to analyze and to make personal pronouncements about the concepts learned; to compare ethnographic data.
• Objectives - communication skills: to know how to communicate the issues orally or in a written paper by using appropriate terminology.
• Objectives - ability to study: to go into the topics through bibliographic research on the basis of the expertise acquired; to combine theoretical and methodological concepts with the observation of ethnographic data.
The course aims to let the student know the main theoretical and methodological concepts of the discipline and, in the most advanced cases, to use the acquired theoretical and methodological knowledge critically.
The measurement of these goals will be possible when it is checked what the student has actually learned.

The objectives and contents of the course take into account the provisions of DM 616/2017 and its annexes for the purpose of recognizing the 24 cfu Pre-competitive exam for area C (anthropological disciplinary).

Prerequisites are assessed by placement tests at the beginning of the academic year.

Lectures, slides and ethnographic video recordings. Students will be involved in guided discussions on specific topics.

The objectives and contents take into account the theoretical and metodological directions requested by the regulation related to teachers training.

Students are invited to register themselves on the DIR website (www.dir.uniupo.it).

The exam is aimed at verifying the achievement of the learning objectives. It consists of a oral test; the candidate will have to present his/her knowledge on topics defined by the teacher. The oral test lasts about 25 minutes. The mark is given based on 30 possible points. The exam will be considered successful with a minimum score of 18 points.
The mark is assessed according to the following criteria:
- from 18 to 21/30: acceptable knowledge and comprehension of the basic concepts of the discipline and of the ethnographic research field; sufficient ability to understand and to conceptualize the anthropological change which took place in Italy in the 20th century; fair ability to apply the acquired knowledge and to communicate the issues using an appropriate terminology; fair ability to acquire new skills;
- From 22 to 25/30: the same items with a satisfactory performance;
- From 26 to 28/30: the same items with a good performance;
- From 29 to 30/30 (with possible honours): the same items with an excellent performance.

The origins of the discipline; the concept of culture in the anthropological sense; culture and simbols; culture and nature; the process of enculturation; levels of culture; cultural diversity; culture and creativity; cultural relativism and ethnocentrism; ethnicity and race; models of parental relationships; the results of globalization; migration, integration and social cohesion; memory strategies; ethnography as a resource for reflective teaching; education and multiculturalism.

Knowledge and understanding: knowledge of some fundamental theoretical concepts of the discipline; knowledge of the ethnographic research fields; ability to understand and contextualize the anthropological change of Italy during the 20th century.
Ability to apply knowledge and understanding: ability to identify, to interpret and to place some aspects of ethno-anthropological culture critically; ability to read a text critically.
Expression of opinions and judgments: ability to make personal pronouncements about the concepts learned; ability to compare ethnographic data.
Communication skills: ability to communicate the acquired knowledge critically by using appropriate terminology.
Learning / studying skills: ability to draw on bibliographic resources in order to acquire new skills; ability to combine theoretical and methodological concepts with the direct observation of ethnographic data.
In order to achieve an advanced level, students must prove as follows:
An organic vision of the themes covered during the course, summary and analysis ability;
Personal elaboration and review of the covered topics, with excellent expressive command;
Ability to independently deepen particular topics.
The mentioned results are consistent with the SUA of the Course of Study.
