French Language I

Reference text to be used for the entire three-year course: Françoise Bidaud, "La nouvelle grammaire du français pour italophones," Turin, Utet, 2015 (third edition), ISBN 978-8860084583. For non-attending students only: F. Bidaud, "Exercices de français pour italophones," Turin, Utet, 2016, ISBN: 9788860084675 (or 2021 edition, ISBN-10 : 8860086523).

The objectives are those recommended at B1 Level in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

- Level A2 (elementary user) of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) for group A. Group A tends to be for those who have studied French in high school.
Placement in the groups will be made by means of a compulsory test to be taken via the DIR platform and checked during the first lessons of the course, according to the level of language proficiency.

The DIR service will provide detailed programs, instructions for the obligatory work, examples of written tests, exercise sheets, and dictations to be made

Separate written and oral tests. First written test: grammar test (\30). Only students who have passed the grammar test with at least 18/30 can be admitted the second written test (dictation /10); comprehension and expression /20). The final score of the written test is the average between the two tests. Only students who have obtained an average score of 18/30 can be admitted to the oral test. The oral test is based on the presentation of the obligatory work monitored during the academic year. The additional points associated to the oral test cannot be more than 3.
The ability to apply grammatical rules is tested in both the written grammar test and the oral test, the ability to understand and produce texts is tested in the second written test of text comprehension and written production. The ability to express personal judgements is tested both in the second written test of text comprehension and written production and in the oral test. The ability to study is tested in both the written test and the oral test, in which the student must reinvest all the skills developed during the course.

Grammar course level B1; phonology: introduction to IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet), phonetic transcription from French into Italian and from Italian into French; preparation for dictation exercises; development of written and oral expression and comprehension skills.
Acquisition of idiomatic expressions.
Mandatory individual work will be monitored by the teacher throughout the course in order to submit to the oral examination, described in detail on the course DIR.
Aim - Knowledge and comprehension. Attainment of level B1 of the language skill Framework.
Ten hours of the course, conducted by Dr. Maurizio Busca, will be devoted to an in-depth study of grammar in a contrastive perspective (Italian/French), halfway and/or at the end of the course.

Achieve level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) in the various skills and become familiar with the phonetic transcription of short utterances (from French to FIA and vice versa).
