The integrative test includes an instrumental language class (structured to go from level B2 to C1 of the CEFR in all the skills listed in the descriptors terms), stressing the techniques of translation, summarization, and essay writing: techniques developed in French Language Exercises III, as well as a unit focusing on linguistic variation, with particular attention paid to diastratic and generational variation, in both a diachronic and synchronic perspective involving the study of a collection of texts (French Linguistics B).

The integrated class includes the French Linguistics B module (a 30-hour course, held in the first semester) and the French Language Exercises A module which is an annual course of 92 hours. It combines a metalinguistic approach and a language learning program that brings the student from level B2 to level C1 of the CEFR, and allows him to develop critical and analytical skills.

CEFR level B1 is required (French Language II module).

Both written and oral tests. The final mark is calculated from the average of the two marks for the modules of the integrated test.

For the Linguistics B module, the topics are dealt with using a metalinguistic approach (linguistic variation, especially diastratic and generational, analysis of the morphology of slang vocabulary, description of the syntax of spontaneous orality, study of semantic neologisms, etc.). For the Exercises III course, all the topics are applied to the various skills and fields concerned (morphosyntax, vocabulary, phonology, pragmatic) to make the student progress from CEFR level B2 to level C1.

Knowledge and comprehension:
The French Language III course leads the students to a full C1 CEFR level of competence in the various skills covered by the descriptors and allows them to develop a metalinguistic and critical approach, with a focus on the morphological, phonological, and semantic fields.
Ability to apply knowledge and understanding:
The students will be aware of linguistic variation, in particular of different types of slang from a morphosyntactic point of view (both ancient and modern). Furthermore, they will be able to appropriately use terminology to describe, within various collections of text, the different semantic lexical phenomena analyzed during the course. They will also be able to translate sentences from French into Italian and vice versa, tackling the question of linguistic registers and their specific use.
