At the first level, the course aims to:
- Acquisition of a good knowledge of the cultural and political context of the development of the latin language;
- deepening of the knowledge of the Latin language in its morphological and syntactic structures from a historical perspective;
- acquisition of the ability to deconstruct preconceived judgments.
- Knowledge of teaching methods for transmitting this knowledge in upper secondary education.

At an advanced level, the course aims to:
- Acquisition of in-depth knowledge of the cultural and political context of the development of the latin language
- achievement of a solid knowledge of the Latin language in its morphological and syntactic structures from a historical perspective;
- acquisition of the advanced ability to deconstruct preconceived judgements.
- In-depth knowledge of teaching methods for transmitting this knowledge in upper secondary education.

Post graduate knowledge of Latin literature and of the Latin language.

The objectives and contents of the course take into account the DM 616/2017 and its annexes to recognize the 24 cfu for area D (Educational methodologies and technologies).

The exam includes a WRITTEN TEST (45% weighting on the exam grade) and an ORAL PART (55% weighting the exam grade). Passing the written test is a necessary condition to access the oral. The written test consists of a short translation WITH DICTIONARY of a Latin text not covered in class, but of the same style, genre and historical period. The oral exam will consist of the translation and grammatical-syntactic analysis of one of the passages read and translated in class (60% of the weight of the oral exam), which will then have to be framed within the literary, historical, philological and cultural context (40% of the weight of the oral test), followed by a question on all the texts present in the programme. To pass the exam, it will be necessary to answer at least sufficiently each of the questions. Exams in which it is evident that even just one of the texts in the program has not been read will not be considered sufficient.

To achieve the knowledge, skills and abilities corresponding to the basic level, the student must demonstrate the following:
- (knowledge and understanding): a fundamental knowledge of the main morpho-syntactic structures of the Latin language
- (ability to apply knowledge and understanding): knowing how to translate a Latin text into prose in an acceptable way and contextualize it within the historical-social context.
- (autonomy of judgment): Acquisition of the ability to express judgments on texts and their critical interpretations, critically discussing their reasons and limits, with particular attention to the historical-political perspective.
- (communication skills): Ability to present the concepts and data learned in an orderly and straightforward way, using appropriate language, avoiding mnemonic repetition and moving independently among the topics covered, also in the perspective of effective communication from a didactic point of view
- (learning ability): Know how to use the methodological tools provided in class (for attending students) and make use of the handouts present in the DIR and the essays provided in the exam bibliography (for all) to identify the fundamental thematic nuclei.

The advanced level is achieved upon meeting the following requirements:
- (knowledge and understanding): advanced knowledge of the main morpho-syntactic structures of the Latin language
- (ability to apply knowledge and understanding): knowing how to translate a Latin prose text into Italian in a timely, correct and personal way and contextualize it within the socio-political context of reference.
- (autonomy of judgment): acquisition of a mature ability to express broad and articulated judgments on texts and their critical interpretations, critically discussing their reasons and limits, with particular attention to the historical-political perspective.
- (communication skills): Ability to explain the concepts and data learned in a brilliant, very orderly and straightforward way, using appropriate language, avoiding mnemonic repetition and moving independently among the topics covered, also in the perspective of effective communication from an educational point of view
- (learning ability): knowing how to master the methodological tools provided in class (for attending students) and make use of the handouts present in the DIR and of the essays provided in the exam bibliography (for all) to identify the fundamental thematic nuclei and the various reciprocal links.

These learning outcomes are consistent with the provisions of the SUA of the Study Programme, framework A4.b2 - literary and linguistic area.
