Crash course of Italian language for foreign students
Reference Texts
The recommended textbook is: Patota-Romanelli, "Percorso Italia", Garzanti linguistica, 7^ ristampa, anno 2021. The textbook is not mandatory.
Learning Outcomes
The course aims to improve the students' communication skills in everyday contexts.
Prerequisites
No background knowledge is needed, as the crash course is designed for beginners.
Teaching Methods
The course adopts the communicative approach and aims to improve the four communication skills (listening, reading, speaking and writing).
It is possible to attend the cours via Google meet.

Exercises in itinere (grammar, listening, speaking and writing). A final exam is not expected.
Detailed Syllabus
COMMUNICATIVE FUNCTIONS:
communicating in the context of the class; greeting informally and formally; introducing oneself; asking and giving personal information; introducing other people; motivating a choice; ordering food and drinks in a café; asking the price; asking "what time is it?" and answering; asking and giving information about a course; saying "I am sorry" and "Excuse me"; thanking people; asking about opening and closing hours of offices, services etc.; asking about one's job; asking and providing directions.
GRAMMAR:
subject pronouns; "tu" and the polite form "Lei"; the present indicative: the regular verbs and the most common irregular verbs; modal verbs; the preposition "di" to indicate one's hometown; the prepositions "a" and "in"; the negative form; question words ("che cosa", "dove" etc.); the gender of nouns and adjectives; indefinite and definite articles; the demonstrative "questo"; the plural of nouns and adjectives.
LESSICO
classroom language; numbers from 0 to 100; formal and informal greetings; the words of university (courses, places, services...); Countries and nationalities; food and drinks; phrases with "essere" and "avere" ("avere fame", "essere stanco" etc.); the days of the week; phrases with the verb "fare"; jobs and places of work; means of transport.
Expected Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course students are expected to acquire the following communication skills:
- to understand and use everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type;
- to introduce oneself and others;
- to ask and give basic information about people and places.
