Learning Outcomes
- Acquire a knowledge of the main dramaturgical trends in post-war British theatre, and
orientate themselves in the history of 20th century cinema.

- To learn to use tools to analyse and discuss the problems of transmedia adaptation from literature to film, and the multimodal transition from the playtext to the stage, with particular attention to plot structure.

- To develop the techniques necessary to become aware of visual and performative language.
Prerequisites
B1-B2 level of English.
Teaching Methods
Lectures, dramatic reading in class, and film screenings; memoir writing exercises; watching live performances.
Assessment Methods
Written test for the theatre part (performative analysis of scenes of contemporary dramatic texts); oral interview for the film part.
An integrated assessment will be carried out, taking into consideration the competence achieved by the student on the cross-sectional themes of the module: adaptation and transmedia transfer, and plot structure, both filmic and theatrical.
Detailed Syllabus
The integrated module offers elements of 20th-century theatre and film history with an introduction to the formal analysis of film and theatre text and a special focus on transmedia adaptation and performative transfer from text to screen and from text to stage, as well as on film and theatre plot structure.
Expected Learning Outcomes
- Ability to analyse a film and theatre text in its multimedia and narratological dimensions.
- Learn to make use of the fundamental tools to deal with a visual or performative text, and an awareness of the transformation from one medium to another: from literary text to film, from theatrical text to the stage.
