Citizenship in its evolution and different conceptions and the models of integration corresponding to the different views of citizenship

1.Knowledge of contemporary theory of citizenship and corresponding models of integration; 2. capability of reasoning and arguing on the topic of the course;3. capability to take an active part in the class discussion. 4. Ability to apply the knowledge to the analysis and solution of case-studies.

Knowledge and capabilities acquired in the undergraduate studies: 1. Basic Knowledge of politics. 2. Capability of clear and correct exposition of the readings and of one’s own position, both in the discussion and in the papers.

Graduate teaching will take place in seminars. The students will arrive to each session, having completed the reading assignment. At the beginning of the course, all reading assignments will be published on DIR. Each session will be open by a student's brief introduction, followed by the general discussion. At the end of each session the teachers will suggest a list of questions for the student to reflect and to stimulate the next session’s debate. A Mid-term paper will be required as a practice for the final paper.

Those who will not be able to attend classes for motivated reasons, will have an oral examination where the whole list of readings will be discussed with the teacher.

The evaluation of the comprehensive course will include the consideration of the outcome of the two modules (each counting 40%) and a final colloquium (20%) aimed to test: 1. The understanding of the link between models of citizenship and models of integration; 2) the capability to apply such knowledge in dealing with actual or hypothetical cases; 3) the communicative abilities of the student.
At the end of the course the student should have reached as a minimum threshold: 1. The knowledge of the different models of citizenship and the capability to connect them with the corresponding model of integration. 2. The capability to classify the case-studies undert the different models 3. Ability of a clear and correct exposition
The student reaches an advanced competence if: she gets a critical and comparative understanding of the different models 2. She is able to analyze the case studies with an autonomous and critical view. 3. She shows a perfect master of language and technical terms.

1.Acquisition of knowledge on the topic of the course. 2.Development of a critical view on citizenship and integration and autonomous development of justified positions, which will be apparent in the discussion in class, in the presentation and in the papers. 3. Refinement of argumentative capabilities to be shown in the elaboration of autonomous positions both in the papers and especially in facing case study. 4. Cased studies provide the opportunity to apply the knowledge acquired in the course with autonomy of judgment.
