Course Contents
The Course will be developed through three sections.

The first section will be devoted to an illustration of the principles of Public Law in the modern era and to the historical and political events that led to the approval of the Constitution of 1948; the second and the third sections will focus on two general topics, the Organization of the Republic and the Rights and duties of citizens, respectively.

In particular, in the first part the course will focus on: the sources of law in the Italian legal system; Constitutionalism.

In the second part will focus on: Forms of State and Forms of Government; the People and the elections; the Parliament; the Executive and the Administration in Italy; the President of the Republic; Regions and local autonomies; the judicial branch; the Constitutional Court;

Finally, the third part will focus on the: Civil liberties; Political and Social rights.

Learning Outcomes
The general aim of the course is to provide students with the tools to understand and master the main concepts of contemporary Italian public law.

Moreover the course aims to provide:

Knowledge of the fundamental features of the Italian constitutional system, with particular regard to the sources of law, to the structure and functions of the Constitutional bodies and to the Constitutional system of freedoms and rights;
Ability to deal with the main issues of the contemporary public law, starting from a correct identification of the current legislation;
Development of an indipendent judgment and of an ability to apply the acquired knowledge.

The assessment method adopted is a written examination based on multiple-choice questions
Expected Learning Outcomes
General skills:

Knowledge of the fundamentals of the general theory of the sources of law and interpretation;
Knowledge of the system of sources of law of the Italian and international legal systems;
Ability to solve some basic problems related to the relationship between the sources of law, conflicts and the techniques of resolution;
Knowledge of the Constitutional organization of the Italian Republic;
Specific and Transversal skills:

Learning and proper use of basic techniques of legal reasoning to solve problems;
Knowledge and use of proper legal terminology;
Ability to analyze legal sources, doctrinal and jurisprudential materials related to public law.
