• Objective - knowledge and comprehension: introducing the students to the study of the anthropology; acquiring the knowledge of the basics of the discipline: theoretical concepts of the discipline and of the fields of ethnographic research; acquiring the critical thinking skills necessary to deconstruct the most common stereotypes; understanding the multiplicity and the plurality of worldviews; deepening the relationship between the anthropological dimension and tourism through some fundamental issues useful to understand the new horizons of tourism, such as the tradition’s reinvention, the food as cultural heritage, the sustainable tourism, the ethnic tourism, the responsible tourism.• Objectives - ability to apply knowledge and comprehension: to be able to identify, to interpret and to place some aspects of anthropological culture critically; to acquire the ability to read texts and documents critically.
• Objectives - expression of opinions and judgments: to acquire the ability to analyze and to make personal pronouncements about the concepts learned; to compare ethnographic data.
• Objectives - communication skills: to know how to communicate the ethnological issues orally or in a short written paper by using appropriate terminology.
• Objectives - ability to study: to go into the topics through bibliographic research on the basis of the expertise acquired; to combine theoretical and methodological concepts with the observation of ethnographic data.
The course aims to let the student know the main theoretical and methodological concepts of the discipline and, in the most advanced cases, to use the acquired theoretical and methodological knowledge critically. The measurement of these goals will be possible when it is checked what the student has actually learned.
The objectives and contents take into account the theoretical and metodological directions requested by the regulation related to teachers training.

General culture knowledge deriving from high school.

Lectures, slides and ethnographic video recordings. Students will be involved in guided discussions on specific topics. Field trip.
Slides and other materials will be available online on DIR platform.

The exam is aimed at verifying the achievement of the learning objectives. The exam is structured in two parts that can be took on a single day or in two consecutive or non-consecutive calls at student’s discretion. First part.
The knowledge of the volume C.P. Kottak (2012), Cultural Anthropology, Milan, McGraw-Hill (only the chapters listed in the document MANUALE KOTTAK – PARTI DA STUDIARE present on DIR) and of the slides used during the module will be evaluated by an e-test consisting of 30 multiple-choice questions. This e-test lasts approximately 30 minutes. 1 point is given to each correct answer. This part of the exam will be considered successful with a minimum of 18 correct answers.

will be evaluated by a written test. The candidate will have to present his / her knowledge on three topics defined by the teacher. This part will also allow to verify the communication skills. This written test lasts 50 minutes.
The mark is given on the basis of 30 possible points. This second part of the exam will be considered successful with a minimum score of 18 points.
The final mark is determined by taking an average of the two partial marks on the basis of 30 possible points and is assessed according to the following criteria:
- from 18 to 21/30: adequate knowledge and comprehension of the basic concepts of the discipline and of the ethnographic research field. Adequate skills to understand and contextualize the relationship between the anthropological dimension and the tourism through the issues of the teaching module.Minimum level of ability to apply the acquired knowledge and to communicate the issues using an appropriate terminology. Minimum level of ability to acquire new skills.
- From 22 to 25/30: the same items with a satisfactory performance;
- From 26 to 28/30: the same items with a good performance;
- From 29 to 30/30 (with possible honours): the same items with an excellent performance.
The candidate will find the results of the first part on the DIR website (registration number + mark); the final mark will be notified on “Esse3 – Computer Services” e-platform. The candidate may check the results of his/her test during office hours.

Knowledge and understanding: knowledge of some fundamental theoretical concepts of the discipline; knowledge of the ethnographic research fields; ability to understand and contextualize the relationship between the anthropological dimension and the tourism through the issues of the teaching module.
Ability to apply knowledge and understanding: ability to identify, to interpret and to place some aspects of ethno-anthropological culture critically; ability to read a text critically.
Expression of opinions and judgments: ability to make personal pronouncements about the concepts learned; ability to compare ethnographic data.
Communication skills: ability to communicate the acquired knowledge critically by using appropriate terminology.
Learning / studying skills: ability to draw on bibliographic resources in order to acquire new skills; ability to combine theoretical and methodological concepts with the direct observation of ethnographic data.
To achieve an advanced level, the student must also demonstrate that he / she possesses:
- an organic vision of the topics addressed in class, and the attitude to synthetize and to analyze;
- the ability to elaborate a personal and critical vision of the topics, with excellent language proficiency;
- the ability to explore particular topics autonomously.
These results are consistent with the requirements of the Annual Form (SUA) of the 3-year course.
