Knowledge and Understanding - The course aims to analyze the textual and legal matrices of the notion of the network in the evolution of technological thought to arrive at an analysis of contemporary problems of the notion of law. Against some reductive and outdated readings, which think of law as the phenomenon of a norm set by the state that applies to a new technological context, there is a need to radically transform the conception of the role of the jurist within technological issues of information technology and artificial intelligence, in order to train legal professions capable of adopting a purposeful approach to the problems that rapid technological evolution poses to legal knowledge and computer scientists capable of understanding in depth the nature of legal science and its proximity to computer knowledge.

By the end of the seminar, students should be able to critically navigate some areas of new technology law (including VR, Virtual Reality and HR, extended reality) and solve elementary practical cases.
The educational objectives of the course are:
- the learning of basic concepts of the proper approach of Law and Humanities to legal culture;
- the critical elaboration of problems related to the political use of the image in contemporary democracies;
- learning basic techniques of visual argumentation and the making of documentaries and short films (including 360° VR) related to the legal cases studied;
- learning research methodology through active participation in workshops and research seminars;
- working in a foreign language.

Having passed the examination in philosophy of law

Alongside traditional lectures, the course will include research activities aimed at developing critical reasoning skills (experiment referring to sentiment analysis). The course includes the use of images and video materials.
The attendance schedule is with daily interactive lectures and common activities among students. Strong motivation and willingness for group work are required for participation.
The participation in the Summer School in Law and Humanities to be held in Nice-Cannes in July 2025 will be equivalent to the legal informatics course. Further information will be provided by the lecturer upon request.

(Seminar in Legal Informatics)
Examination will be conducted in oral form.
The oral examination is aimed at ascertaining the acquisition of an ability to read critically, not merely mnemonically, the content related to digital justice and the metaverse.
A topic resulting from the student's individual critical analysis, may optionally be presented during the oral examination.
There will be times to ascertain understanding of the course content during the class period.

Summer School
Common analysis and discussion of the solved case, participation in group discussions, creation of video materials in 360° VR, short documentaries or short films. Verification does not involve an examination in traditional form, but the realization of a product.

(Seminar in Legal Informatics)
During the seminar we will elaborate a notion of the network of law within the framework of general legal theory capable of taking up the reticular conception of the text found in the glossators, to the point of showing its proximity to the notion of hypertext underlying the HTLM language. At the same time, it will be shown how the recent evolution of legal knowledge and the increased role of jurisprudence configure the legal system as a reticular model that has profound affinities with the information theory epistemologically underlying the development of computer networks. The analysis will then focus on the link between the historical evolution of the notion of legal person and the more sensitive issues of internal and external social robotics and 'living with robots' as a specific feature of contemporary society. The course will analyze the impact of big data, surveillance capitalism, sentiment analysis, social networks, and the aesthetic and media component of the normative on the evolution of contemporary legal systems and the legislation governing these areas, with a focus on digital privacy, use of artificial intelligence, blockchain, and smart contracts.

(Summer School) The seminar is an innovative teaching mode (linked to the PRIN Project LET in Law) that involves solving an imaginary legal case and making a 360°VR video related to the case. After a common thematic part, students will use new technologies to make a short film from the case of Lon Fuller's speluncean explorers. Strong motivation and willingness for group work is required for participation. The seminar consist of a Summer School/Free Mover program during the month of July 2024, at the University of the Côte d'Azur in Cannes/Nice, France, at the Méliès/Carlone Campus, dedicated to the use of new technologies, with the possibility of residing in a student facility in Nice. The Summer School will include in-depth analysis of classic philosophical-legal and rhetorical-legal texts, in-depth study in English or French, and will also include the development of topics related to the legal clinic of new technologies and the making of short documentaries and short films. The attendance program will include daily interactive lectures and common activities among students and the creation of a film product in 360° VR starting with Lon Fuller's spelunking case.

Seminar in Legal Informatics
Knowledge - Knowledge of the indicated topics, with emphasis on epistemology, hermeneutics and legal aesthetics, media theory, sentiment analysis, social robotics, use of AI for law. Development of independent critical skills in each of the indicated fields.
Skills - Development of critical skills related to the regulation of artificial intelligence in law, big data, digital and social network privacy. Development of autonomous source research and appropriate communication in scholarly and media contexts on these topics.
Skills - Development of basic legal competence in the analysis of social interaction and the human-machine relationship, ability to identify hidden legal problems in the adoption of innovative technologies, improved ability to communicate effectively in an interdisciplinary design and programming context with experts of knowledge different from one's own.

Upon completion of the course, students should be able to understand the normative aspects of image use in contemporary complex societies.
Ability to apply knowledge and understanding
At the end of the course, students will be enabled to master the tools of visual communication in procedural and media contexts, to understand the central points of the ongoing transition to virtual reality and 360° cinematography, and the possibility of using the tools offered by independent cinema to carry out film and educational projects.
Autonomy of judgment
Students will be led to develop critical competence concerning the normative use of image in contemporary societies in different fields (political and legal communication, marketing, social networks).
Attendees will be in a position to:
(a) independently carry out and manage the different stages of an image production project;
b) use the knowledge learned and apply it to the field of video production of legal content.
Communication skills
Students will be expected to demonstrate mastery of:
(a) the ability to argue in oral form the content learned
(b) the ability to construct critical connections between topics.
Learning skills
Attendees and especially those who will attend the seminar will also be made able to master a job of writing content and group production of audiovisual content in a foreign language.
