Assessment Methods
Learning is assessed by ORAL EXAMINATION. Each candidate will be asked several questions that may relate to all the topics included in the didactic program with prevailing attention to the topics dealt with during the lectures. A grade out of thirty will be proposed which will result in the overall grade out of thirty, expression of a weighted average with a final evaluation shared by the teachers of the individual modules. The exam is passed when the final grade is 18 or higher. The assignment of the highest marks with honors (30 with honors) is envisaged.
Detailed Syllabus
Outline of bone histophysiology and osteogenesis. Congenital malformations and diseases (DCA, PTC, congenital torticollis). Diseases of developmental age (scoliosis, osteochondrosis, epiphysiolysis). Infectious pathology of the bone and joints. Primary and secondary skeletal tumors. Osteopathies (osteoporosis, rickets and osteomalacia, Paget). Arthropathies (arthrosis, rheumatoid arthritis). Aseptic necrosis of the femoral head. Cervical and lumbar disc herniation. Myotendinous pathology (shoulder, overload tendinopathies, Achilles tendon). Topics of Hand Surgery (canalicular syndromes of the upper limb, Dupuytren, Volkmann). Biomaterials, Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine in Orthopedics and Traumatology.
General principles of skeletal traumatology: general information on fractures (classification, bone repair processes, principles of therapy, complications), epiphyseal detachments, the polytrauma patient. Fracture systematics: humerus, wrist, pelvis, femur, leg, vertebrae. Stress fractures. Traumatic injuries of the joints (shoulder, knee, ankle).
Expected Learning Outcomes
Knowledge of the main pathologies of the musculoskeletal system, ability to conduct a reasoned clinical examination in order to formulate a diagnostic hypothesis and prescribe adequate instrumental tests.
Ability to evaluate the severity, treatment and prognosis of traumatic injuries of the locomotor system.
