Course books are mandatory for the course.

Students are expected to demonstrate an ability to understand texts and be able to discuss matters with English speakers also regarding simple medical issues. The course aims at reaching a B2 level as is in line with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Students are expected to have a knowledge of English and grammar upon entering the course. It is mandatory that students lacking in their English skills bring up their level during the course using the books assigned and used throughout the course. Students without the aforementioned prerequisites in need of assistance are requested to get in touch with the professor at the beginning of the course.

Grammar and collocation will be reviewed and more complex forms will be dealt with during the courses. Special emphasis will be given to grammar and language usage. Reading comprehension plays a fundamental role, with some listening alongside grammar exercises which test student’s knowledge of the forms taught, with special emphasis on exercises and quizes commonly used for the First Certificate of Cambridge exam.

Students who intend to make a request for the conversion of credits based on B2 language certificates or higher recognized on an international level are requested to contact the administrative offices for such requests.
Students with disabilities, learning disabilities or special education needs, once they have contacted the University Staff, can refer to the tutor in charge of the course to define the examination modalities, concerning academic aspects.

The request to be exempt from attendance based on the aforementioned documentation can be made. It is up to the professor to make the final assessment at the beginning of the course. For this reason, it is pertinent to be present the first day of the course in each year to verify this possibility.

The evaluation of each individual case remains up to the discretion of the course professor, based on the documentation provided, to allow for the exemption from attendance.

Final marks will be based on the written exam at the end of the third year which will examine students knowledge of grammar, the use of English and reading comprehension. Vocabulary: A vast array of vocabulary is provided during the course through the Cambridge materials used as the course books. Students are expected to improve their vocabulary and learn language usage throughout the course.

Grammar topics: Present tenses, past tenses, present perfect and simple, past perfect, future, adjectives, adverbs, questions, countable and uncountable nouns, modals, pronouns and determiners, the passive, conditionals, the to infinitive and -ing, prepositions, relative clauses, linking words

Listening: • Extracts from the course book and You-tube videos.

Listening: Ability to understand spoken language of a certain length and complexity as well as an ability to understand commonly used language in various contexts.
Reading: Ability to read articles and texts in which the author expresses explicit viewpoints, including narrative texts.
Oral: An ability to express oneself clearly regarding different topics, as well as opinions relating to current events, with a certain emphasis on an ability to express pros and cons and different options.
Writing: An ability to express commonly used language and terminology in a written text.
