Learning Outcomes
The teaching course wants to offer to each male and female student a wide and complete
knowledge of the nervous system, which is essential in the management
of clinical-diagnostic evidences, following the different disease affecting
the nervous system.
Prerequisites
Each female and male student must have the knowledge provided by Anatomy I- teaching
course, such as the basilar knowledge provided by biology and histology
teaching.
Teaching Methods
Teaching will be delivered as oral presentation, with Power Point projections
auxilium, and discussion in the classroom. On-line lessons will be
performed, to detail some topics
The power point projections will be made available to all students on the
relative DIR pages

Assessment Methods
The exam provides a written test that will be submitted to each female and male student to
evaluate the acquisition of knowledge in the various subjects of the
course.
The exam aims to verify the student's ability to focus on the topics
developed by the course
WRITTEN EXAM
The written exam consists of 30 multi-choice questions -5 options, of
which only one exact-
Students will have 1 min for resolve each single quiz
The questions will highlight topics such as:
3 questions: spinal cord (morphology, functional areas and nerve
pathways)
5 questions: Functional areas of the Encephalon (Brainstem, Cerebellum,
Midbrain, Diencephalon)
5 questions: Brain Nuclei (Topography and Function)
3 questions: nerve funicular pathways (regional topography and function)
3 questions: cortical areas (topography, nomenclature and functions)
3 questions: Deep nuclei of the telencephalon (topography and function)
2 questions: Peripheral nerve (topography and function)
3 questions: Encephalic nerve (topography and function)
1 questions: Sympathetic system (anatomical architecture and function)
2 questions: Eye and Ear
All students participating in the exam will be offered a day of checking and viewing the correction /
evaluation of the written test
Each question of the quiz focuses on a different fundamental concept,
requiring specific and correct knowledge of the Anatomy of the Nervous
System; therefore, the evaluation of the quiz acquires a selective profile.
The test will be considered positive if at least 18 questions of the quiz,
will be correctly resolved.
ORAL EXAM
The oral exam wants to test the ability to manage information and
functional relationships of the motor, psychic and visceral outputs that
are the basis of human pathology and, in the clinical practice of focused
tests useful to identify specific neurologic or psychiatric diseases.
Oral examination part will be performed by 3/4 questions on arguments
of the course lessons; the vote shall participate to define the final vote of
the HUMAN ANATOMY teaching course.
Detailed Syllabus
The Central Nervous System: general overview.
The Spinal Cord: Organization of the gray matter: laminae, nuclei,
functional areas. Spinal reflexes. Organization of the white matter: the
nerve funicular pathways of motricity and sensibility.
Anatomy and function of areas and nuclei of the different parts of the
brain: Bulb, Pons, Midbrain, Cerebellum, Diencephalon, Telencephalon.
Functional interconnection pathways of the nuclei.
The nerve pathways of the special senses.
Neurosecretion: anatomy and function of Epiphysis and Pituitary gland
The limbic system and the emotional centers of the instinct.
The cortical areas: topography and function.
The cranial and spinal meninges: anatomy and function. The cerebral
ventricles and cerebrospinal fluid.
Anatomy and function of the central nervous system vascularization.
The Peripheral Nervous System: general anatomy, nerves and ganglia.
The spinal nerves: anatomy of plexus, anatomical details of somatic
nerves pathways.
The autonomic nervous system: the sympathetic and the
parasympathetic nervous system: anatomical details and function.
The enteric nervous system.
Cranial nerves: anatomy and function, pathway details.
- INTEGRATION of the GENDER DIMENSION
Analysis of the functionality of the different brain areas in relation to gender differences in social and behavioral aspects.
Expected Learning Outcomes
Each female and male student is expected to have acquired detailed knowledge of the
topography and functional aspects of the Central Nervous System
structures and the anatomy of the nerve course of the Peripheral Nervous
System, in order to identify the foci of pathological alteration and their
clinical relevance. Each male and female student is also expected to have acquired the
ability to understand and correlate the functional aspects of the different
structures of the Central and Peripheral Nervous System occurring in
pathological manifestations that may involve the nervous system.
