The course aims to provide a historical perspective on the evolution of medicine and an anthropological perspective on disease and treatment.
The student will also be able to critically analyze the ethical and deontological aspects present in the professional context and to address the most relevant issues of professional ethics. Know the methodologies for the solution of ethical-deontological dilemmas encountered in professional practice. All these contributions of knowledge will form the basis for reading the current health situation and will favor, through the regulatory assumptions, the development of critical reflection for research and practice.

Provide elements of knowledge of the historical evolution of Western medical science in relation to medicine in other cultures, comparing different approaches to disease and treatment. Provide the tools for the appropriate and effective understanding of the processes of cultural production and dissemination within a welfare system and therefore make them an integral part of the socio-assistance and health services that guarantee citizens the forms of care and accompaniment necessary to overcome critical issues related to health, aging, disabilities, social integration and all the problems associated with the recognition of a duty of social protection.
Learn the essential foundations of general and social psychology necessary for the knowledge of the principles on which the analysis of the person's behavior and the capacity for self-assessment and adequate experience in the field of relationships and communication are based. Knowing how to recognize the main behavioral risk factors as a cause of social unease and identify the characteristics of different human groups. Acquire relational and communicative skills both as regards the doctor-patient relationship and as regards institutional relationships. Define the theoretical framework of the concepts of health and illness with particular attention to the psychological experience and the psychosocial component. Furthermore, from a cultural welfare perspective, the theme of prevention and attention to lifestyles acquires great importance, in line with a conception of health understood not as the absence of pathologies, but as the full capacity of individual expression based on a eudaimonic harmony between mind and body which also translates into resilience with respect to environmental stressors.

To make full use of the teaching contents, historical knowledge acquired in pre-university school years and biomedical skills acquired in previous years of the Medicine and Surgery course are required.

The module includes seminars, organized by different teachers, alternating with group activities in the classroom, film screening and reading of texts

All these contributions of knowledge will form the basis for reading the current health situation and will favor, through the regulatory assumptions, the development of critical reflection for research and practice.

Written test.
Single final exam aims to evaluate the extensive control of the preparation of the exam program and the intensive control on the ability to autonomously reflect on critical points of the program.
Achieving the level of eligibility is mandatory for all teaching modules for passing the exam.
The final grade is the result of the values of the modules that are part of the teaching.

History of Medicine
General and Social Pedagogy
Medical Anthropology

Historical dimensions and specific languages relating to the issues of training in the health sector in addition to the use of pedagogical methodology for the development of the communication of help relationality in the doctor-patient relationship.
