• To learn about the most frequent diseases of the urinary and male genital tract and their social and health
impact for their incidence and their repercussions on quality of life.
• To learn the indications for the main instrumental and laboratory tests of urological interest.
• To understand the etiopathogenesis, the pathophysiology and the diagnostic and therapeutic pathways for
the most frequent diseases of the urinary and male genital tract, based on a critical elaboration of the
clinical, functional, laboratory and imaging findings, taking into account the differential diagnoses and the
risk/benefit and cost/benefit ratio.
• To know the preventive strategies and the possible evolution and prognostic implications of the main
diseases of urological interest.

It is necessary to have passed the exam of “Pathological anatomy” and have acquired basic notions of histology,
anatomy, biochemistry, physiology and radiology.

Urological semeiotics:
• physical semeiotics (familiar and physiological history, past medical history, recent medical history, physical
examination, signs and symptoms);
• laboratory and instrumental semeiotics (renal functional tests, urinalysis, urinary culture, semen culture, urethral
swab, urinary cytology, tumor markers, urodynamics, imaging tests, endoscopic tests)
Infections of the urinary tract and of the renal parenchyma.
Prostatitis and orchiepididimitis.
Urogenital tuberculosis.
Urinary stones
Congenital urologic malformations
Hydronephrosis

Urethral stenosis
Benign prostatic hyperplasia

The expected learning outcomes are consistent with the general provisions found within the European Qualifications Framework (Dublin descriptors) relating to knowledge and understanding.
After the acquisition of nosography, etiology, pathophysiology, signs and symptoms of the diseases, at the end of the Course, you are required to be able to deal with the discussion on the problems of clinical relevance in Urology, showing yourself autonomously capable and skilled in setting differential diagnostic reasoning, based on observation, on knowledge of epidemiological data, on the rational use of instrumental and laboratory investigations, as well as on the possibilities of prevention of the most common pathologies, in reference to the topics covered by the course program (course objectives )
It is also requires the ability to make correct therapeutic indications, to be generally oriented on the most common surgical techniques, on surgical "timing" and on prognosis, keeping in mind the psychophysical and social characteristics of the patient. Adequate knowledge of the problems relating to the pre- and post-operative periods is also required, related to both small, medium and major urological surgery.
