Course Contents
Physiological growth from infancy to adolescence. Evaluation of the child who is not growing. Overweight and obesity. Puberty disorders. Thyroid and adrenal disorders. Evaluation of the child with oncological pathology. Infectious diseases in pediatric age.

Learning Outcomes
The objective of this course is to generate knowledge, understanding, and the ability to apply knowledge regarding the main pathologies of the neonatal and pediatric age in the fields of endocrinology, oncology, and infectious diseases. The aim is to establish prevention, diagnosis, and therapy, and to acquire professional skills useful for managing the complexity of the pathology and the specificities of the child. The course will also assess autonomy in judgment, communication skills, and learning abilities concerning the course content.
Other pediatric diseases will be treated in the other pediatric courses.
The teaching method provides for the horizontal and vertical integration of knowledge and is oriented towards the ability to solve problems and make decisions. Furthermore, attention is paid to interventions for the prevention of diseases and the promotion of children's health, taking into consideration the globality of soma and psyche, the peculiarities of the developmental age, gender differences and the social context.
Prerequisites
Student have to Know main physiology and pathology knowledges of growth processes in pediatric age, taking into consideration the new care and health needs centered not only on the disease but on the sick child and his family.
Teaching Methods
Lectures and plenary discussions of clinical cases to develop the interpretation of diagnostic tests and clinical reasoning, starting from the knowledge acquired in the basic courses, declined in the pediatric age.

Oral examination.
Student have to demonstrate knowledge of treated diseases and ability in clinical reasoning.
Detailed Syllabus
Physiological growth from infancy to adolescence. General assessment of the child with growth failure. Pathological short stature. The emerging issue of obesity in childhood. Puberty disorders. Thyroid disorders. Congenital adrenal hyperplasia and adrenal insufficiency. Infectious diseases in childhood. Approach to the child with oncological pathology. Major pediatric cancers. Management of pain therapy. Follow-up.
Expected Learning Outcomes
Knowledge of growth charts and correct biometric parameters in pediatric age. Approach to the main pathologies covered in the course. Recognition of the specificities of pediatric age. Focus on disease prevention and health promotion interventions for children, considering the entirety of body and mind, gender differences, and social context.
