localized and widespread abdominal pain

30. Metabolic comas (DKA, HHS, hepatic coma)

Reference Texts
The student receives the slides presented in class as well as the videos
attachments.
It also receives the paper/computer contents of the main guidelines
international courses on the most important topics covered in lessons and in
simulation.
Learning Outcomes
The Medical Surgical Emergencies course is a second semester exam
of the last year of the single-cycle Master's Degree Course in Medicine and
Surgery.
The program proposes an approach to clinical problems for the great
part known by male and female students, however addressed according to a methodology
specific to emergency conditions.
This methodology goes beyond traditional framework schemes
nosography of the diseases trying to go through the criteria for defining severity and symptomatic approach, postponing the objective of
a refined and definitive diagnosis.
This approach takes into account the need to guarantee the student the
ability to deal with a clinical condition where the decision of medical behavior must be rapid and aimed at stabilizing and
improve the patient's clinical conditions by acting according to schemes for
largely codified.
Handling emergency situations yourself will probably be one
of the first tasks in the professional activity of young doctors; that is
occurs frequently in the absence of a specific experience that
put you in a position to be able to deal with them with safety and professionalism.
The course will also provide learners with the basic elements for management
healthcare for major emergencies and disasters.

Being the last exam of the single cycle course, it is desirable that students have acquired the main skills in the clinical field
of both internal medicine and general surgery e

Teaching Methods
The general organization:

The lessons

a- All lesson topics will be prepared in .ppt and/or text files which will be made available at the end of the lessons

b- The lessons, in frontal teaching in the scheduled hours, will mostly have a problem-based footprint with interactive clinical cases.
The lessons will be held according to the attached program.

Practical exercises

Mandatory practical exercises will include the following
subjects:
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation and approach to polytrauma (4 hours)
Clinical cases in advanced simulation and non-technical skills (4 hours)
Clinical cases in simulation (4 hours) – Clinical cases in simulation (4 hours)

Assessment Methods
Admission to the exam will be subject to attendance of lessons,
frequency of exercise activity
The final exam will consist of a preliminary test of 80 quizzes focused on
topics and on the material presented in the course. The top 40 quizzes will be
considered basic for passing the course, the student will have to do these
answer at least 30 correctly in order to pass the exam.

Expected Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course it is hoped that the students will have acquired the ability to
evaluate the signs and symptoms of the main situations that arise
in the context of emergency/urgency, who know how to direct the diagnosis
towards immediate therapies save lives and know how to coordinate effectively
and efficiency the diagnostic therapeutic process and coordination
of any consultants. They will have to be able to guarantee a
rapid clinical care management and aimed at stabilizing and
improve the patient's clinical conditions by acting according to schemes for
largely codified.
