Course Contents
The course deals with the pathophysiological mechanisms related to senescence, blood perfusion, acid/base and hydro-saline homeostasis, hemostasis, iron and bilirubin alterations and neurodegeneration.

Learning Outcomes
The course deals with the pathophysiological mechanisms related to senescence, blood perfusion, acid/base and hydro-saline homeostasis, hemostasis, iron and bilirubin alterations and neurodegeneration.
Prerequisites
The students must have acquired adequate information of Biology, Anatomy, Physics, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Medical Genetics, Histology and Physiology.

Interactive class, discussion, reading scientific papers.

Assessment Methods
Oral exam. The student needs to have acquired information on the most important pathophysiological processes that cause disease.
Ability to apply the acquired information to the study of the mechanism of human disease is expected.
Detailed Syllabus
Senescence.
Hemostasis.
Physiopathology of blood perfusion: Ischemia, hyperemia, reperfusion syndrome. The shock
Physiopathology of acid/base regulation: acidosis and alkalosis
Physiopathology of iron. Regulation of body iron adsorption and distribution. Iron deficiency and overload.
Physiopathology of hydro-electrolytic homeostasis. Hydro-electrolytic alterations. The edema.
Pathophysiology of heme.
Pathophysiology of systemic and organ-specific amyloidoses
Gender mainstreaming: gender-specific aspects will be discussed for each disease.
Expected Learning Outcomes
The task of this course is to make the students able to understand the cause and the pathogenesis of disease.
