Learning Outcomes
To define the concepts of epidemic, pandemic and endemic.
To describe the objectives and stages of the epidemiological investigation during an epidemic.
To classify the main types of epidemics and define their methods of presentation, spread and containment.
Prerequisites
Basic in medical statistics.

Assessment Methods
Multiple choice quiz on the program. The student will have to answer 30 multiple choice questions (4 options) single answer (one correct answer). Scores are given with one point for each correct answer, -0.25 points for each incorrect answer and 0 points for no answer. The score obtained will be normalized to the highest score and will contribute to the overall exam grade weighted by the relevant credits.
Detailed Syllabus
Introductory concepts and definitions.
Microorganisms or toxic substances responsible for the disease:
Reservoirs and sources of the etiological agent of the disease.
Mode of transmission of the etiological agent.
Construction of the epidemic curve.
Causes that favored the development of the epidemic.
Choice and implementation of control interventions.
Expected Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course the student will be able to: Establish or verify the diagnosis of the first reported cases;
Confirm the existence of the epidemic;
Characterize disease cases;
Formulate tentative hypotheses;
Test hypotheses;
Establish control measures and evaluate their effectiveness;
Close the epidemiological investigation.
