The course aims to allow the learning of the principles of pathophysiology that determine and regulate the functional activity of the respiratory system and also aims to deepen the knowledge of the theoretical and practical aspects of the assessment tests of respiratory function.

• Guidelines on the interpretation of respiratory function tests
• Chest pump and pulmonary parenchyma diseases
• Purposes of respiratory rehabilitation in obstructive and restrictive lung diseases
• Physiopathological mechanisms of dyspnea (as symptom in respiratory diseases)
• Measurements and evaluations in Respiratory Rehabilitation
• Organization of rehabilitation intervention: patients, setting and control of effectiveness

The training objectives of the Respiratory Diseases Course for Physiotherapists are to know the following:
1) learning of the main functional and pathophysiological alterations related to the main chronic and post-acute respiratory diseases, with notions
about the consequent disability and related rehabilitative approaches
2) learning of the main functional alterations relatted to the diseases of the respiratory system
3) to apply the appropriate rehabilitative interventions in the patient with COPD and other chronic respiratory diseases
4) the interventions necessary to satisfy the preventive and rehabilitative needs of the patient with chronic respiratory pathology indication for
respiratory rehabilitation by identifying the achievable goals and the tools necessary for their realization.

They represent requisites for the better learning of the rehabilitative aspects in respiratory diseases the knowledge of the anatomy, physiology of the cardio-respiratory apparatus and of the physiopathology and clinical of the main respiratory diseases.

Lectures and discussion of clinical cases

The exam consists of a written test with multiple-choice questions on topics of the course program

• Respiratory Muscle Disorders in chest wall diseases and bronchial /parenchymal pulmonary diseases
• Purposes of respiratory rehabilitation in obstructive and restrictive lung diseases (COPD, asthma and interstitial lung diseases)
• Physiopathological mechanisms of dyspnea (as symptom in respiratory diseases: clinical phenotypes copd, interstitial lung diseases and
neuromuscular respiratory diseases)
• Measurements and evaluations in Respiratory Rehabilitation
• Organization of rehabilitation intervention: patients, setting and control of effectiveness
• Respiratory Rehabilitation Interventions

Knowledge: ability to understand the basic concepts related to disability of respiratory diseases.
Capacity: through theoretical and practical training to apply the knowledge acquired
Making judgments: to understand, discuss and critically analyze issues related to the Respiratory Rehabilitation.
Communication skills: facilitate an appropriate and critical verbal expression about the topics.
Learning skills: to acquire the methodological tools to continue their studies and to be able to continue independently for your update
