Course Contents
Preventive and community dentistry is the branch of dentistry that deals with epidemiological investigations and primary prevention through the containment of risk factors for oral diseases of greater social impact.
The course aims to make students understand the concepts "oral health equals systemic health" and "prevention is better than cure" as well as basic concepts of epidemiology.
At the end of the course, the student must know the risk factors responsible for alterations in the state of health, must acquire the competence and the ability to detect and process the data deriving from the patient's study in order to be able to instruct and motivate him to preventive and prophylactic methods or to the correct therapeutic pathways.

Learning Outcomes
Teach students the concepts "oral health equals systemic health" and "prevention is better than cure".
At the end of the course the student must have knowledge of epidemiology, the main methods of detecting and recording dento-periodontal data, know the risk factors of the main oral-dental diseases and the prevention methods that can be implemented to combat them.
At the end of the course, the student must possess the skills and abilities that allow him to record and process the data obtained with the anamnestic evaluation and the physical examination of the oral cavity; carry out epidemiological investigations; inform / instruct / motivate patients to prevent oral and dental diseases; carry out research on the main databases.
Prerequisites
the student, in order to be able to successfully access the course, must have acquired the knowledge derived from the Physics, Statistics and Informatics C.I, C.I. Basic Biomedical Sciences, C.I. Disease etiopathogenesis, and knowing the English language in order to read and understand a scientific article.
Teaching Methods
The course makes use of theoretical lectures.
Some topics will be explored during the hours of supplementary teaching and will be the subject of single-issue papers focused on the planning of prevention interventions in certain categories of patients.
Additional Information
Some topics will be explored during the hours of supplementary teaching and will be the subject of single-issue papers focused on the design of prevention interventions in certain categories of patients
Assessment Methods
Learning will be assessed through an exam aimed at verifying the knowledge acquired which consists of a written or oral test with open questions or with a multiple choice quiz.
The written assignments are corrected in a collegial form and discussed with each individual student. During the interview, the student must demonstrate that they know and be able to present the arguments in an understandable way; to have understood at least the fundamental concepts. The student must also be able to establish connections between topics covered and other disciplines.
In the event of a negative result, it must recognize the mistakes made and then identify the correct answers.
