Course Contents
The course aims to provide students with knowledge and skills to solve numerical exercises on the basic classical physics: kinematics and dynamic, elasticity, acoustics, fluid dynamics, temperature and heat, kinetic theory of gases, thermodynamic laws and classical thermodynamic elements. Elements of electromagnetism. Geometric Optics with basic Physical Optics.
Reference Texts
R. Resnick, D. Halliday "Fisica", CEA

D.C. Giancoli
Fisica. Principi e applicazioni. CEA
Learning Outcomes
Provide the basic knowledge of the subject (those indicated in “contenuti”) with particular attention to the application aspects and abilities needed to solve numerical problems useful in the field of biochemical sciences; stimulate the acquisition of the ability to relate on the methods of resolving the numerical exercises and the theoretical aspects and on the acquisition of an appropriate scientific language.
Prerequisites
Possessing the basic notions of Algebra, Trigonometry of higher education.
Teaching Methods
The course is based on front lectures in the classroom that will cover both the theoretical introduction of the program topics and the resolution of exercises carried out by the students and the teacher. Particular attention will be given to encouraging students to use an appropriate vocabulary.
Additional Information
In itinere learning will be checked through numerical exercises conducted by the teacher.

Students with physical disabilities, Learning Disabilities or Special Education Needs can request specific services and tools via the "Staff Sviluppo e Coordinamento Carriere e Servizi alle Studentesse e agli Studenti", consulting the University webpage: https://www.uniupo.it/en/services/services-students-physical-or-learning-disabilities. Students with disabilities, learning disabilities or special education needs, once they have contacted the University Staff, can refer to the tutor in charge of the course to define the examination modalities, concerning academic aspects.
Assessment Methods
The final evaluation will be based on a written test which will consist in a multiple choice quiz and the resolution of numerical exercises similar to those discussed during the lessons and useful to understand the degree of knowledge and autonomy achieved by the student.
To pass the test, the student must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of basic concepts and their applications to solve numerical exercises.
The level of difficulty corresponds to the program and the reference texts indicated.

Expected Learning Outcomes
Knowledge and understanding: knowledge of the main topics of classical mechanics, fluid motions, wave phenomena with applications to acoustic, gas laws, the principles of thermodynamics, electromagnetism and optics. Sbility to understand scientific text and the exercise questions.
Applying knowledge and understanding: ability to use physics principles and laws to solve practical and numerical exercises, within the field of relevant applications for the biochemical sciences.
Communication skills: skills to report on to numerical exercises resolution methods, and on the theoretical aspects in a precise concise and clear way. Moreover, it is expected that students will begin to acquire an appropriate scientific language.
