Learning Outcomes
The student must be able to understand the importance of the various anatomopathological methods (cytology, histoenzymatic histology and molecular biology) as tools of diagnostic, prognostic and predictive significance in the main chronic tumor and inflammatory pathologies. In particular, it will have to understand the impact of the technical laboratory activities on the histo-cytopathological diagnostic quality.
Prerequisites
Principes of normal human anatomy and normal histology, basics of molecular biology; principles of treatment of biological materials
Teaching Methods
Power-point presentations
Assessment Methods
Written multiple-choice test exclusively on topics discussed at lessons
Detailed Syllabus
Introduction to anatomical-pathological diagnostics: principles of macro and microscopic diagnostics, autopsy, histological and cytological.
Principles of treatment of cytological and histological materials; conservation of materials, fixation concepts.
Intraoperative diagnostics
Main methods of extraction of genomic material from tissues, main methods of extractive and in situ molecular diagnostics (FISH)
Expected Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course the student must be able to understand the meaning of histo-cytopathological and molecular techniques and methods for predictive diagnostic and prognostic purposes
