Learning Outcomes
The course aims at providing the basis to plan all the phases of scientific research, from bibliographic research to the choice of the best experimental model to answer a specific scientific question. The course also aims at providing the student with the tools to plan research according to the EU regulation and apply the 3R principles.
Prerequisites
Basic English to carry out bibliographic research and read scientific papers.

Assessment Methods
Learning will be assessed throughout the course and on DIR by questions and discussions on specific topics, also on the basis of the student's specific interests, including the presentation of a scientific paper using an animal model of a human pathology that will allow testing the ability of the student in explaining the aims of the work, illustrating the results, and discussing the results.
The final exam will be a written test.

Bibliographical research and literature revision; in-deep analysis of a scientific paper.
Classical and emerging biological models.
Animal welfare
Current European and Italian legislation and the 3R principle; apply for the authorization to conduct research with animals.

Expected Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course, students are expected to have become familiar with different experimental models and techniques, also through the critical analysis of scientific literature, to engage in their own drafting of an experimental protocol.
