Course Contents
The course aims to provide students with basic knowledge of the structure of DNA, replication, transcription, translation and the main techniques used to study DNA and RNA.

Learning Outcomes
The aim of the course is to provide students with an overview of the structure of DNA and the mechanisms that govern fundamental phases of cellular processes: replication, repair, transcription and translation.
This basic knowledge is necessary to address future curricular topics in Regenerative Medicine.
Prerequisites
Students are expected to have a general knowledge of biochemistry and cell biology.
Teaching Methods
Frontal lessons with PowerPoint presentations.
Running problems, quizzes and case resolution at home using the Wooclap platform.

Detailed Syllabus
The structure and function of DNA:
chromosomal DNA and its packaging in the chromatin. Chromatin structure and function. DNA replication mechanisms. DNA repair. Transcription: initiation, elongation, and RNA processing. Translation. Analyzing and manipulating DNA and RNA: restriction nucleases, gel electrophoresis, cloning PCR.
Expected Learning Outcomes
Knowledge of the structure of DNA and the main basic cellular processes: replication, transcription and translation. Deepen the main molecular mechanisms in order to understand the implication of alterations of these mechanisms in the onset of diseases and how some of these can be exploited to correct any defects.
