Course Contents
The teaching course aims to provide each male an female student with the knowledge
relating to functional morphology and the relationships between the immune system and the nervous system through the analysis of the anatomical morphologies of the lymphatic and lymphoid organs and their innervation profiles
Reference Texts
ANATOMIA UMANA
McKinley
on-line edition
Didactic material offered through the DIR platform
Learning Outcomes
The purpose of the teaching course is to allow each male and female student to understand the functional aspects of the immune system and its functionality about the relationships that are established with the nervous system.
The recently acquired importance of neuroimmune relations on the body's defensive processes enriches each female and male student with a cultural view that can be used in various professional fields of clinical, pharmacological and experimental biology.
Prerequisites
All male and female students are advised to possess the notions of
Human Anatomy, Physiology, General Pathology
Teaching Methods
The teaching course will be provided as oral presentation of the arguments, with help of Power Point projections, and classroom discussion.
The projections used in class will be made available to each male and female students enrolled in the course on the
related DIR pages.
Additional Information
All female and male students with physical disabilities, Learning Disabilities or Special Education Needs can request specific services and tools via the Staff "Sviluppo e Coordinamento Carriere e Servizi alle Studentesse e agli Studenti", consulting the University webpage: https://www.uniupo.it/en/services/services-students-physical-or-learning-disabilities Students with disabilities, learning disabilities or special education needs, once they have contacted the University Staff, can refer to the tutor in charge of the course to define the examination modalities, concerning academic aspects.

Control of ongoing learning can be carried out with individual exercises and partial tests.
Assessment Methods
ORAL Exam
The oral exam consists of 3/4 oral questions, whose evaluation will give rise to the proposed exam grade.
The exam aims to evaluate the acquisition and the ability to manage the knowledge offered by the course.
The exam wants to analyse in each male and female student, the knowledge of the structural morphology of the organs studied during the teaching course, their innervation profiles and the understanding of the functional aspects resulting from this interaction in the physiological expression of organ function. The appropriate oral exposition adequacy will also be analyzed as an index of relational ability of knowledge.
Detailed Syllabus
Anatomical organization of the lymphatic system.
Lymphatic Vessels, Lymph and Lymph Nodes.
The Lymphoid System.
Anatomical and functional description of: Spleen, Thymus, Bone Marrow, Lymphoid Masses.
The Peripheral Nervous System: Orthosympathetic and Parasympathetic. Anatomy and functional relationships. Innervation of the lymphatic and lymphoid organs
The Central Nervous System.
Brain areas of the Ortosympathetic and Parasympathetic system, functionals to the immune response
The Neuro-Immune Endocrine relationships.
- Integration of the gender dimension:
hypotheses and data obtained from experimental observations regarding the presence of gender differences in the functional aspects of the analyzed system
Expected Learning Outcomes
It has been expected from each female and male student, that he gained complete knowledge on the microanatomical aspect of the lymphatic and lymphoid structures, as well as knowledge of the innervation profiles in the specificities of the individual structures. Each male and female student must have acquired knowledge of the functional relationships that the structures have within the immune defence organization of the human body in relation to physiological and pathological conditions
It has been expected from each male and female student, that he had acquired the ability to manage his knowledge in an applicative way to identify design problems, ability to find information, identify and analysed thematic aspects related to the problems inherent to the neuro-immune aspects and the consequences on physiological homeostasis and pathological profiles. Furthermore, each female and male student should be able to achieve the appropriate communication skills to be able to present descriptive issue and problematic related to the neuro-immune aspects in a clear and concise way with appropriate scientific language (in both oral and written form), also valid for presentations aimed at "non-professionals".
It has been expected from each male and female student the ability to use the teaching material for a critical and reasoned study is expected, realizing the ability to analyse and update independently, through the reading of texts and scientific articles, issues related to the neuro-immune aspects and their problems.
