Hispanic Literatures
Culture in Spanish language expresses itself in
Spain and American countries’ literary and artistic
production. This integrated course offers two
different deepenings about the two related geografic
areas, that, even if they share a common language
and similar cultural influences, are also two different
contexts that allow to broaden the look, traditionally
european, to hybridism and to cultural richness of
Latin-American countries.

Spanish Literature I A:
A.Course. The feminine condition in Spain: throught both an historical excursus and the analysis of some texts by Federico García Lorca and Carmen Martín Gaite the course objective is to illustrate the life conditions and the socio-cultural difficulties of women in the Spanish traditional view, according to a gender perspective.

Latin-American Literature:
A. Course: the fantastic in literature.
Through the analysis of some texts of LatinAmerican Literatures of the
XXth century, the course aim is to study the different
tendencies of the
fantastic (fantastic, magic realism and mervellous).

In order to reach a sufficient level, student must be
able to recognize the main characteristics of an
author or a text in relation to the modern history of
Spanish and Spanish-American Literature.
In order to acquire superior skills, student must be
able to show a critical ability to establish the
relationship between a text or a play and the
corresponding literary code, the ability to explain
and defend her/his own opinion in a literary
discussion, and employ an appropriate terminology.

Basic Knowledge of Spanish Literature and Theater
taking into account the european context.
Knowledge of the history of the American conquest
and of the development of Latin-american Literature
in XXth century.

Lecture and textual analysis.

The oral examination for
both courses consists in a discussion about the
themes and subjects illustrated in class. The first
question is about the general contextualization of
authors and works from an historical and literary
perspective; the following questions are about the
specific works that have been analyzed in class.
The examination takes about 20 minutes and the
number of questions isn’t quantifiable, because the
maieutic method implies a constante dialogue
between student and professor.
In order to pass the examination it’s necessary to
reach a basic level for boths aspects: the
contextualization and the specific textual analyses.
Obviously, the evaluation depends on the capacity
of illustrate, explain, analyze the general matters as
well as the single texts.
The final vote is the result of the average weight of the partial votes.

The student must show to be able to analyze and
contextualize both the texts treated in class, and the
esthetic movements in Spain and Latin-American
literatures.
The student must show as well transversal
competencies such as the ability of establish links
between an artistic movement and the concrete
literary creations of the authors that have been
treated in class, and the autonomy of judgment in
analyzing themes, motives, stilistic and esthetic
characteristics, language uses, ideological, historical
and cultural implications.
