The course of an applied nature will focus on techniques for writing a scholarly essay in the humanities.

Through focused exercises, the course aims to provide students with the tools to analyze (a) argumentative structure and (b) rhetorical construction of academic essays in the humanities.
At a more advanced level, the course aims to develop skills in independent writing of an academic text (essay, article, dissertation introduction/chapter, three-year thesis).

Excellent knowledge of written Italian (grammar and syntax).
(Students who request it will be allowed to write in English)

Lectures and workshop with practical exercises.

1) Carrying out the exercises available on DIR.
2) Writing one part of an essay of your choice from:
- introduction
- Literature Review
- critical analysis of a topic
- conclusion.
The grade will depend on the achievement of the following objectives:
- semantic and syntactic adequacy of the essay ( language register, technical vocabulary, grammatical and syntactical correctness, logical consistency, argumentative clarity)
- stylistic and formal adequacy (notes, citations, bibliography)

The course the will enable students to
- Enucleate the argumentative structure of an essay by identifying the type of argument presented.
- Set up essay writing with (a) adequate argumentative structure and (b) mastery of technical language
- Know how to construct and write a bibliography appropriate to one's research and stylistically coherent.
